“I promise to take care of your mother. She has the option to do whatever she likes, but…” he looked at Cynthia, “…I’ve got a few sightseeing tours I think she may love.”

Cynthia opened her mouth, her eyes wide. “Kéra Asnela is a whole new world for me. I want to see as much of it as possible. How great of a storyteller are you, Your Majesty?”

His gaze sparkled. “The kids in the courtyard run to gather around me when it’s story time. I think that makes me official. What do you think?”

Cynthia giggled. “If the kids are enthralled you must be great. I bet you use that deep voice when you’re getting really intense in a scene.”

“You can bet I do.”

She laughed again and her sons watched her light up like a Christmas tree.

King Isaac reached for her hand, and she gave it to him. Their fingers linked, charging their flesh, and the sensation stirred them simultaneously. Their gazes remained locked when Langston cleared his throat. “I’ll get your suitcases, Mom.”

“There’s no need,” King Isaac said. “My royal guard has already collected Cynthia’s things.”

Just as he said it, men clad in royal guard uniforms could be seen carrying luggage onto the aircraft.

“Are you ready, Queen of the Clarks?”

Cynthia’s smile widened. “I am.” She turned to her sons and held her arms out. One by one, they embraced her and laid kisses on her face.

“We love you.”

“I love all of you too, more than anything in this world.” She gave her attention to Langston. “I know you. Don’t let current circumstances dictate your worth, or your life. You’re an amazing young man and you’ll continue to succeed and be great.”

Langston wrapped her in his arms again, hugging her close.

“Be easy on yourself, and go get your lady,” she whispered.

He nodded. “I will. Take care, and I’ll see you soon.”

She kissed his forehead and Tristan added, “He’s not that young, really.”

Cynthia twisted her lips. “Tristan…”

Tristan held his hands up and whispered over at Malik, “He’s not.”

They chuckled as Cynthia and King Isaac strolled to the aircraft. They watched them board and Cynthia offered a final wave of her hand before the doors closed.

The men waved back and remained there until the plane had taken off.

“She looks extremely happy,” Malik said.

Langston nodded. “I don’t think I’ve seen her so joyful since….” They all looked at each other, confused.

“Have we really seen her flirt and enjoy a man’s charm?” Tristan asked.

Langston sighed. “I hate to say it, but not like what we just witnessed.”

“That makes me wanna sucker-punch that—”

“Malik,” Langston interrupted.

Malik bit his lip, his nostrils flaring. “Right. Let’s focus on the road in front of us.”

Langston snapped his fingers, his eyes widening as a thought crossed his mind. Tristan and Malik squinted at him.

“What is it?” Malik asked.
