I’m grinning because I knew that was coming. Lucas’ woman is a pro when it comes to that baby stuff. I will gladly let her take over where that shit is concerned. “On second thoughts, I’ll let you girls stick to the baby stuff. I’ll just be the moral support you need when Paisley gets overexcited.”

Brianna giggles. “Because we all know thatisgoing to happen.”

“Oh, yeah, she’ll be demanding you have a girl so your kids can grow up and get married when they’re older. I can picture it now. It will be our childhood all over again.”

Brianna bursts out laughing. “Oh my God, you’re so right. She totally will. I better have a son too. So I won’t have to put a daughter through all that torture.”

“So being best friends with me all our lives was torture, huh?” I tease.

I can picture her rolling her eyes. “Shut up! You know I adore you.”

“Love you too. Okay, I better get to work. I have a meeting to prep for.”

“Kick some acquisition ass.”

“Bri?”

“Yeah?”

A bright smile touches my lips. “I am so fucking happy for you.”

She sniffles like she’s holding back tears. “Thank you. Just remember… don’t tell Nash I told you.”

Nodding, even though she can’t see me, I smirk. “You got it! Have a good day at work.”

“Don’t spend all day watching Zoey,” she teases, making me feel called out as I avert my eyes from Zoey and look at my computer.

“I’m going now.”

“Byeee,” she chimes happily, then ends the call.

I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement washing over me. Like maybe a weight has been lifted from my shoulders too.

Brianna is pregnant.

She also knows I have a thing for Zoey.

It makes it feel real.

My thoughts are finally out of the bag.

Maybe voicing it will make something happen.

But the truth is there are obstacles in our way, and they’re legitimate, clear hurdles we must face if we venture into a relationship.

Right now, I don’t see the risk outweighing the benefit.

Turning back to my computer, I get on with work because it will keep me occupied.

That’s what I need.

Distraction.

Because Lord knows, staring at Zoey all day is never going to do me any damn good.
