I turn and smile, doing my best to keep my baser instincts under control. “Are you ready to see your new home, my little dragon?”

She studies me briefly but then steps her tiny foot across the threshold and into my waiting arms. She gasps and trips, her curvy form falling against me.

Catching her, I smile down into her startled gaze. “Are you alright, little mate?”

Her mouth trembles and the sweet coral makes me long to touch her lips with mine, sipping from her lovely lips and marking her with my teeth and tongue.

She’s so young, so fresh and lovely. “How old are you, Serenity?”

She pushes off of me and smirks. “You were at my graduation, warlock. You should know.”

“I know you have to be at least eighteen for the mate call to come for me.” And for the demons to be able to find her.

“I am eighteen. Today is my birthday.”

My brow lifts and I sigh. So damn young. It seems wrong in some ways but yet this is what fate has called for. And to throw your fated mate back because she’s younger seems even worse than never finding her.

Honestly, even with the age gap, I can’t even think of pushing her away. My body wants her. My soul recognized her as soon as I looked into those spring green eyes with the long, dark lashes. She’s the most striking woman I’ve ever seen. Her creamy pale skin with the light kiss of freckles on her button of a nose. The lush curves and generous smile have my mind in a tizzy and it’s all I can do to get myself under control and not jump her like a slavering satyr.

“How old are you?” She asks, her eyes wandering over my silver hair.

My lips quirk. “Worried that when we mate, you’ll be tied to an old warlock?”

She laughs lightly. “You seem very healthy, Saar. I’m not that worried.”

“Just to put your mind at ease, mate, I’m actually thirty two. I went gray prematurely.”

She shrugs and smiles. “Makes no difference but it’s nice to know.”

“Let’s get you settled in a room and then you can get cleaned up or whatever. Come down when you’re ready and I’ll have dinner ready for you.”

She nods her elegant head and follows along behind me. I can hear her light steps behind me as she follows me up the stairs and down the long hall. I open the door that’s closest to my suite and she follows me inside, gasping when she sees the size of the room. It’s done in lovely cream and chocolate fabric. The dresser and side tables beside the bed are a light cream with golden handles. All around the room are stunning pictures with blooming flowers with gemstones inlaid into the canvases. The centers of all the flowers are larger gemstones that glitter in the sunlight dappling the walls and furniture in the room.

She takes a deep breath, her eyes wide with wonder. Her fingers caress the silk coverlet, quilted with flowers.

“Does your wife live here?”

I shake my head. I decorated this room for her. I sensed that she would love it. It felt right when I went to the small town of Magic and started sourcing exactly what I’d need.

As soon as I saw her in my dreams, I knew I’d be bringing her home. To me, to our life. To our fight and the fight for all humans and shifters alike. This fight will encompass every supernatural being that I can find. We’ll need all the help we can get.

“This is your room. It’s always been your room. I turn towards the door, nodding at the other door in her room. “That’s the en suite bathroom. Take your time. I’ll be waiting when you’re ready. I’ll always be waiting for you.”

I dip my head to her and then stalk out, closing the door behind me. I clench my fists, not wanting to walk away from her but knowing that she’s not ready.

We have time. I turn my head to see the clouds roiling outside my window and my hand lifts, waving them away.

As each day goes by though, our time grows short to begin the work needed to stop the dark future that’s unfolding from happening.

We need to be a team to defeat Hell. I only hope that we have enough time for the training that she needs. The young witch-dragon is powerful but untrained and her magic is lying dormant right now inside her soul.

It’s my job to set her free to reach her full potential. That…and to love her for the rest of our lives and build a family that will continue our work.

SERENITY

Wandering down the stairs, I admire the woodworking and rich decor. The house is a stunner. It’s hard to believe that the man that calls me his mate owns this house.

My dragon lifts its head inside me.Mate.She sighs and rests her head on her large crimson feet.
