I gasp for breath and my fingers tingle everywhere they touch his warm skin. Sucking in a deep breath, I fight my dragon back down. I was seconds from half-shifting and didn’t realize it.

My claws retract and the clouds in my mind clear enough for me to step back, groaning.

I fucking want him so bad. But there’s something more at work here. If he’s my destiny like he and my dragon say, then I still want to know him better. Feel more connected than just lust.

He shakes his head sadly, turning to grasp my hand and lead me back to the kitchen. “Let’s get some food in us. Then you can head back upstairs and rest.”

I feel the disappointment in the air like a dark cloud but I still can’t make myself lose my head all the way.

I need more. No matter how much I want him.

SAAR

Iwatch Serenity as she sits, eating the meal I prepared. Nothing hard…it’s just sandwiches and fries. I’m too distracted to try anything else.

This woman has reached down inside me and ripped my heart out of my chest. She owns me body and soul. I’m barely hanging on by a thread. If I wanted to I could seduce her with my magic. Could make her want me easily. Just a flick of the wrist and she could be mine.

I shake my head at the temptation. I can’t do that. She’s a beautiful woman inside and out. I can see the aura around her and it’s pulsing with energy and fire. But there’s also truth and honesty in it. She is who she is and she doesn’t bother being anything but that. It’s enough for me.

It will always be enough for me.

“Is it alright?” I ask her, needing to hear her sweet voice in my ears. It’s like a siren’s song. I can’t get enough of it.

“It’s good. Thank you,” she says, her eyes down, her slender body tense.

I reach out and take her hands in mine. She stiffens even more and I growl, “look at me, Serenity.”

She lifts her head but her eyes are dull and worried.

“Hey,” One of my hands reaches out to gently touch her jaw, lifting her chin to mine. “Why do you look so sad?”

She huffs out a breath that makes my skin sizzle. “I messed this up, didn’t I? You think I’m too immature for you. I’m a child in your eyes.”

I’m shaking my head before she even finishes. “No way. That doesn’t matter to me. I’m more worried about you.”

“Me?” Her brow lifts and her mouth falls open. “Why are you worried about me?”

“Because you’re young. You’ve got your whole life ahead of you. You’ve never experienced anything yet. I should let you go. But I just can’t fucking do it. You belong to me. I belong to you.”

“I just wonder if you wouldn’t be happier with someone else.”

I chuckle and lean over, kissing her lips lightly. “You have much to learn about fated mates and destiny, little dragon.” My head cocks to the side. “Your parents are fated mates, aren’t they?”

She smiles and it’s so full of love that my breath catches. That look should be mine. I can feel the sizzle in my blood when her sparkling, pale green eyes meet mine. “Yes, my parents are fated mates. I understand what it is but I’m not feeling what I should be feeling.”

She frowns. “At least I don’t think so.”

My heart sinks and I wonder what is going on. I saw her in my dreams for at least a week, maybe longer, before I went to find her. I could feel the pull to her from miles away.

As a shifter, she should be able to feel the pull from even further away. She shifts and I see an amulet around her neck, hidden beneath her t-shirt.

I curse myself under my breath. I’m so hypnotized by her that I didn’t even notice it. I reach my hand out and touch it, wincing at the heat and power running through it.

This little amulet protects my dragon mate…from me and everything else. It’s not as powerful as mine for her will be, but it’s plenty powerful enough to block out some things. And I might be one of those things.

“Who gave you that?” I ask her, leaning back and pulling my hand away.

She smiles and lifts her slim hand to touch it. “My aunt. Well, she’s my honorary aunt. She’s a witch.”
