Happy fucking birthday to me!
My phone rings in the middle of the night and I struggle to open my eyes. Sleep doesn’t come easy to me these days. I grab my blinking phone and answer, but the moment I hear his voice, I know. I know that something has happened to Chastity, and this time, I might have lost her for good.
“We need you, Tempest,” he grunts, and I throw the covers off my bed and start packing.
“Ash, what’s happened?” I whisper, too scared to talk any louder. Sniffles sound from the other line, and I can’t believe someone as gruff as Ash is crying. My heart pounds as I wait for him to tell me what’s going on.
“It’s not good. Where are you? I’ll come get you.”

I finally found her, but I think I’m too late. She’s with a really big guy and he’s holding her as she cries. I was ready to forgive her and accept that she loves my dad, as long as she would include me too. But obviously, she never felt the same devotion for us, if she can just move on to someone else in less than two months.
I watch as he pulls away and presses a kiss to her forehead before taking her hand and bags. I don’t know him, but he seems sad. Did she break his heart too? They walk to a car parked in the lot and climb in before driving away.
She never looks my way, even though I’m standing out in the open with my heart breaking and tears running down my face.
Why am I being left behind, yet again?
She’s really gone this time, and that’s how she needs to stay.
