Dropping my arm from around her, I doubled over laughing. A few people stopped to watch since they rarely saw me laughing unless it was with the guys and even then, it was few and far between.

Moving forward, I pressed Payton into the wall, looming over her. “The students at this school know exactly the type of attention they’ll receive from me if they go against my wishes, and none of them want to be locked in my sights.”

Payton gazed up at me. Her big green eyes wide. “Why are you doing this?”

I wish I knew, but there was no way in hell I was going to tell her that she had me feeling things I’d never felt before.

“It doesn’t matter. Eventually, I’ll lose interest, and then what will you do?”

Her lips curled up at the sides. “Probably throw a party. Is there any chance you can tell me when that will be, so I can start planning?”

Spotting Lincoln up ahead of us, I ended our conversation. It was time I knocked some sense into him. “Not today. Now why don’t you run along? I’ve got some business to take care of.”

Payton looked around and then spotted Leo, Kai, and Linc at the end of the hall. She may have said she didn’t like the attention I gave her, but I knew she was lying. She secretly loved it, and when I lost interest in her, Payton would be ruined.

Stalking down the hall with my fists clenched at my sides, I didn’t stop until I was rounding up on Lincoln. It didn’t matter that we were the same height. I still loomed over him.

“Dude, what’s your problem?” he laughed shakily as he took a step back.

“You’re my problem,” I growled, pushing his shoulder.

“What the hell did I do? I haven’t even seen you this morning.” He shouted, but kept his hands to himself. He knew if he touched me, it would only set me off.

“I want you to leave Payton alone,” I demanded.

“What the hell are you talking about? I haven’t even talked to her since I brought her to the party.”

“And who gave you the right to show up at her house and bring her?”

“I did, asshole. What the hell is your problem? I brought her for you. I have zero interest in her.”

Right.

I saw the way they all looked at Payton. Every single guy here wanted her. Unfortunately for them, I would make sure no one else laid a hand on her.

“Have you talked to her since?”

“No, Archer,” he yelled. “You’re acting like a lunatic. Don’t let this girl get in the way of our friendship,” Linc said, only loud enough for me to hear.

I didn’t give a shit who heard me, though. Bumping my chest to his, I glared at him. “How about you don’t let her ruin our friendship? Stay the fuck away from Payton or we’re going to have words, again.”

“Damn, Archer. Can’t you see she’s playing you? That girl has you all up in arms with your best friend. Don’t let her play you like that,” Leo interjected.

“Let me get this straight for all of you. I don’t want any of you to talk to Payton. Am I making myself clear?”

“Crystal,” Linc gritted out.

“Good,” I snapped before I walked away, wondering how someone I barely knew could turn my whole world upside down.

This shit was going to end now.

CHAPTER EIGHT

ARCHER

I was no closer to finding out who hit Payton over the head on her first day. Not a single person stuck out. It didn’t help that after my outburst a couple of weeks ago, no one would even look in her direction. Everyone seemed suspicious and, at the same time, innocent. At least now everyone knew that if they messed with Payton, they were fucking with me.

“I can’t believe you’re having a party just to get her to your house,” Linc laughed as he helped me set up the bar area downstairs.
