But just one taste left me wanting more.

It wasn’t just the way he fueled my muse. He was sophisticated yet rough around the edges in a way I couldn’t place, almost like a volcano waiting to explode. Majestic in its dormancy, but deep within it bubbled, just waiting for the opportunity to show its true magnificence.

I wanted to see Nate explode, and I was pretty sure he wanted to, despite his hesitance.

His lips worked against mine while his hungry tongue demanded my compliance until he pulled away, leaving me breathless.

His forehead pressed to mine and his voice was heavy with desire. “Last chance to walk away.”

“I’m not going anywhere,” I promised, my words barely a whisper.

His stubbled jaw stung mine as he pressed staccato kisses to the corners of my mouth. “You don’t know what you are asking for.”

It wasn’t about what I was asking for, as much as it was about what I knew Nate needed. He was broken, and didn’t have to be. The heart he wore on his sleeve said he wanted to love with everything he had, but he innocently gave his heart to the wrong woman, and now he was a ship lost in a tumultuous sea.

It was a good thing I specialized in lost things.

The two shots I’d taken spurred my confidence, and I pulled back just enough to meet his stormy gaze “I’m asking for you to take me upstairs and fuck me.”

His lips parted and a guttural groan rumbled from deep within him that had me clenching my thighs.

“I won’t go that far with you.”

“Why?”

“It’s wrong.”

“Says who? Maggie?”

He dropped his chin to his chest and let out a sigh of defeat. “She saved me.”

“No. It sounds to me like she turned you into a damn puppet of the man she thought you should be before she found another new man to string up, all the while keeping her perfect little toy at home. Listen to me, Nate.” Careful not to startle him, I lifted my hand and traced the line of his jaw. “I want you to do unspeakable things to me.”

Where Nate had hesitations about sleeping with me, I had none. We had tonight, then tomorrow we’d be strangers again, and that was fine by me.

At least that’s what I kept telling the walls around my heart.

Nate leaned forward and my hand fell away as he brushed his lips up the length of my jaw, sending a shiver through me. When he spoke against the shell of my ear, his words were a delicious rasp. “You can’t talk like that, Firefly.”

A grin broke out across my face. He’d only called me it twice, but both times were when he was riled up. Fighting or fucking. It was his emotions that got him to let go, and I could get used to hearing his nickname for me.

Very used to it.

“Take me upstairs, Mr. Fox. Let me wrap my mouth around your cock and suck an orgasm from you that will leave you questioning your own name. I won’t stop until I’ve tasted every drop.”

Nate pulled back and blinked rapidly, seemingly unable to find words. They never expected the sweet girl in daisy dukes with freckles to have a filthy mouth, and I loved surprising them.

Nate’s eyes dilated but he didn’t move a muscle, frozen in place as if a single breath would betray his thoughts.

“I’m a big girl, Nate. I can make decisions for myself.”

“Eden, I…”

I reached up and cupped the side of his face, allowing my thumb to trace the line where stubble met cheek. He seemed to be a million miles away. “Let go with me, Mr. Fox.”

He didn’t react. I wouldn’t have known he heard me at all if it wasn’t for the sharp intake of his breath.

“Let me—”
