Without thinking, I reached out and cupped her cheek, tipping her head so her eyes met mine. “And you’ll have me.”

“How, if I’m in the city?”

I couldn’t help the grin that spread across my lips. “While we’re in the city.”

She cocked a brow.

I lifted a hand, indicating for her to wait a moment while I rolled over and grabbed my jeans from where I’d discarded them haphazardly. Her eyes narrowed as I produced a small keyring from the back pocket, and my stomach gave a small roll, nerves suddenly ravaging me.

“What’s that?”

I held out the small silver key attached to the ten ring rosary loop I’d used to pray for intercession on this decision. “If you want it, it’s the key to your new apartment in New York City.”

Her mouth dropped open, and for the first time, I witnessed a truly speechless Eden.

“I—Nate I can’t accept that.”

“Not even if it’s ours?” I asked, before backpedaling to remind her she always had a choice. “Of course, if you aren’t ready for that, I can get a place in the faculty apartments until you are, but I want you to take the job. Don’t sell yourself short for me.”

And I meant it. Would it suck if she told me to kick rocks? Yes, but it wouldn’t change my answer. She deserved this job and everything that came with it. If she passed it up for me, I’d never forgive myself.

That didn’t mean I hadn’t made arrangements to make sure I could be there, supporting her every step of the way.

With a bit of reluctance, she reached over and took the key, fingering the beads. “Faculty apartments?”

“I took a job at NYU. It was time for a change, somewhere where no one will know me as the man who quit being a deacon. Plus, they are going to let me work on a Masters in poetry while teaching religious studies.”

“Really?”

“Really.” I reached out and tugged Eden into my lap and pressed my forehead to hers. “I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my life, and taken my sweet-ass time realizing that life is too short to not be authentic and fight for the things you believe in. You are my future, Eden. I’ll take whatever you’ll give me.”

“Everything,” she whispered, and my heart skipped a beat. “I want everything with you, too.

“Are you sure? Because I’m not sure I can walk away again.”

She nodded. “Now fuck me, and let’s celebrate us until the sun comes up.”

Fuck, how did I get so lucky?

I rolled her over and slid between her legs. She was my Garden of Eden, my peace, and I planned on spending eternity lost in her embrace.
