PROLOGUE

The dossier is open, once again to the page of Jacqulin Luciano. I can’t stop staring at the twenty-one-year-old daughter of the mob boss I’m here to take down. She’s innocent and knows nothing about the dealings her father is involved in. There’s a story there, and I plan on beating it out of the old man.

“Zimmerman!” My boss, Wallace, stands in front of my desk as I look up at him.

“Yeah?” I’m annoyed I didn’t even hear the bastard sneak up behind me—my daydreaming of Jacqulin has me so out of it.

“It’s time. We are sending you undercover.” Wallace smirks at me. He’s hated my power in the CIA since I busted up an illegal ring right under his nose.

“You secured a cover for me?” I ask standing up, ready to get this assignment started. Hell, if I’m being honest, I am ready for it to be over. Maybe then I can put my infatuation out of my mind.

“Follow me.” He shakes his dirty blond hair out of his face and laughs. I’m wondering what’s so damn funny.

When we get to the operation detail room, a Catholic priest is standing there, sizing me up. What the hell?

“He’ll never do. He’s as far from a priest as you can get.” The man’s heavy Spanish accent irks the shit out of me.

Snarling, I step forward. “And you’re the holy one, judging me?” Director Sharp raises a hand to get me to stop talking.

“We can cover the tattoos with his robes and gloves. He’s the best bet you have to take down the Tejas Mafia and Cartel.”

“It is against our rules to have long hair. He must cut it.” The priest looks at me and sighs. “Is his Spanish any good?”

Instead of letting anyone speak for me, I answer the prick. “El que esté libre de pecados, que lance la primera piedra.” He who casts the first stone is without sin.

Shocked, the priest blinks. “I stand corrected. Forgive me.”

Smirking, I say nothing more. It’s been like this my entire life. Everyone has always underestimated me, and I’ve had the privilege of showing them their asses.

Sharp comes up to me and sighs. “Go with Father Ignacio. He’ll get you your robes and settle your rooms at the church.”
