“Yeah.” I sigh and sit down on the toilet. Closing my eyes, I try not to think about what my life is going to be like. Except all I can think about is Germaine.

Would he help me? After the way he dismissed me, I doubt it. Even if he is a priest, I’ve tempted him into sin. He is probably going to lose his job if anyone finds out what happened. I won’t tell, though. So, it would have to be him. I wish I was back in his arms.

CHAPTER TEN

GERMAINE

“Bastard!” I swing at the punching bag. I hurt her so fucking badly. The look on her face is going to be ingrained in my mind for decades. It had to be done so I could do my job, but dammit, there was a better way. A less harsh way.

“You know, there are enemies to punch instead of that bag.” Ellie, my mission partner, stands there, looking grim.

“I know that. Got to get some frustration out. What are you doing here, E?” Taking off the boxing gloves, I throw them on the chair and swipe the towel to dry myself.

“Luciano hurt Jacqulin.” That’s what I love about Ellie. She’s upfront, honest, and holds nothing back. She’s always straight to the point and has an affinity to call people on their bullshit.

Dammit. My heart feels like it’s being ripped out. I know there’s nothing I can do at the moment. “Your point?” Right, so now I’m going to act like a total cold-hearted jackass. Way to go, Germaine.

“Cut the bullshit. I saw you earlier today. You’re in love with the girl.” Like I said, holds no punches back.

“Doesn’t matter. We have a job to do, and she’s a distraction.” I take a swig of water and Ellie hands me her phone. There’s a picture of Jacqulin standing in a room, her back to the camera and her ass on full display. Luciano dared to spank her? Bare ass? He touched my girl. My mind is exploding, and a roar leaves me.

“That’s not all.” She swipes the screen to the right and there’s my sweet girl with a bruise on her abdomen. Before I can think about what I’m doing, my fist connects to the mirror next to me.

“Is she in her room?” My voice is hoarse and raw.

“No, they forced her to leave with Gomez.” Ellie pockets her phone, and I take a deep breath to calm down. It’s not helping.

“We got GPS on him?”

“Yeah, they are at Club Ambrosia.” Ellie shrugs and I nod.

“Great, let’s get a team over there. I’m going after her father.” Heading toward the shower, I look at Ellie. “If Gomez touches her, kill him. I don’t give a fuck what Wallace says.”

The grin on Ellie’s face makes me want to take my words back, but they are the truth. I will kill them all. “That’s the Germaine I know. Go, get ready while I call the team in.”

Checking my ammo one last time, I kick in the door to the Luciano mansion as the bravo team announces we are here. This feels like an easy fucking capture and maybe a little preemptive, but who the hell cares? Well, I do care, but this take down is too important. Even if something feels like a trap, I have to catch this guy. My comms unit crackles.

E: This is too easy, G.

Me: I know.

E: We should pull back.

Me: A…

The comms goes silent as I hear the ticking click of someone’s gun cocking mechanism being engaged.

Multiple red dots light up my team as the door to my right opens. “Everyone freeze.” Luciano bellows as he comes out of his office. Fuck. I knew we should have pulled out. This is not how I wanted this to go down, and I certainly didn’t want to put my team in this type of situation.

Our saving grace is that the bravo team is coming in behind Luciano’s team. Before anyone can speak, a gunshot rings out and all hell breaks loose. We scramble to take cover. The front entry is being decimated by bullets, and I can’t seem to think. All I can feel is relief. Relief that Jacqulin is not here. She isn’t in the crosshairs of this battle.

“Luciano, call your men back!” the bravo team leader yells as I move around the table that I flung myself and Ellie under.

“Target is two paces to the left of you, Cap.” One of my team members says over the comms and I look to my left. Sure enough, there he is, shooting randomly with his back toward me. Perfect.

Lining up my scope, I take the shot. It pegs him straight in his ass. It’s not enough to take him out, but to slow him down. Ellie is up and running straight at him. Luciano turns and aims. My gun goes off and he drops his gun as the bullet makes a clean hole through his right arm.

Ellie tackles him to the ground and manhandles him until she has him cuffed. That’s my teammate, though. She’s as tough as nails. One by one I take down bad guys, making sure none of them gets to her. She’s out in the open and I’m not happy about it. Then again, someone had to render Luciano helpless.
