Then we hugged it out. It was too easy.

It really felt like family.

After that, Mia asked if I needed anything, but I just wanted to stay alone. I needed to clear my head. She didn’t push it and left me alone. She even sent my meal to my room. I ate it and just reread some of my favorite parts of a book from my Kindle that Antonio sent me.

It was a peaceful night. I tried to keep bad memories at bay. I wanted to be able to go back to Antonio. I wanted to be sure I was not going to hurt him again.

I slowly walked to the kitchen. It was a little late, and I was out of water. I hoped to get some without making any sound and coming across anyone. Even though Mia and I made up, I was almost sure everybody else hated me in this house.

I wanted peace and quiet.

Unfortunately, I was not so lucky because when I stepped inside the kitchen, I came face to face with Valerio. He was wearing a white shirt and slacks, but they were all wrinkled up. He was busy gulping a big glass of water.

“Hey,” I said, trying to keep my voice non-shaky. Valerio didn’t tell me he would kill me like Salvatore, but they were brothers, and I knew Valerio never really liked me. He was always a little skeptical about me.

I just wished to make it back up to my room without getting killed.

“Hey,” Valerio answered and filled his glass again. He gulped the whole thing down.

My eyes widened. “Wow, you are really thirsty.”

He gave me a teasing smile. “All the time.” I actually laughed, and he explained with a more serious face, “I have school in the morning. I can’t be hangover.”

“Aren’t you a little young to be drinking?”

“I am.”

I was not the person to judge him. When I was fifteen, I would have sneak out of the house to go clubbing as well. It was one of the few fun things about our world. I also knew Salvatore must know what he was up to, and it was not my place to speak.

So, I moved to fill myself some water, but Valerio didn’t go away. “Why are you here?” he asked with furrowed brows. He seemed too casual. He was actually an easy-going boy but never to me.

I was surprised.

“I am just spending the night.”

He leaned to the counter. He only seemed curious. No hate. “I thought you and Mia had a fight. Did you work it out?”

I nodded, smiling. At least that was fixed. “We did, but I haven’t talked to Salvatore. I am trying to be silent so he won’t kill me.”

“He can’t kill you.” Valerio shook his head, smiling. “He is just intense when it comes to Mia.”

Well, maybe we were more similar than I thought.

“Is Antonio here too?” Valerio asked.

I shook my head. I didn’t know if I wanted to tell Valerio about what happened, but he just seemed too approachable at the moment. “We had a fight,” I blurted out. “That’s why I am spending the night away.”

Valerio nodded, and a smile spread on his young face. “Damn, he must be going crazy back at home.”

“He doesn’t go crazy,” I said even though I knew it was not true. He did go crazy when I was concerned.

“He goes crazy for you.”

What?

I mean, I knew that, but no one else did. No one else believed he could actually feel. Especially not the boy who warned me about it at my wedding.

“I thought you guys believed he could never have emotions.”
