Valerio’s eyebrows came together, and he shook his head. “Well, the others do, but I don’t. They are just okay with accepting whatever Antonio says, but even he doesn’t know what he is capable of. I know he has emotions. He just sucks at dealing with them.”

My mouth was wide open. I thought Valerio was my enemy in the family, and apparently, he was the only one believing what I did.

He even talked about it like it was something very normal.

I threw my hands in the air. “Then why the fuck did you tell me he didn’t have emotions?” He even seemed like he hated me for thinking the opposite.

He smirked. “I like challenging people. That is what I have been doing since you two got married.”

“Challenge?” I asked with confusion. I always thought he hated me or he was jealous of me even though he was a little old for that.

Valerio shrugged. “I mean, what happened at the wedding was also a warning. Antonio is a hard man, and I didn’t want you to get your hopes up. However, I was hoping you could get to him, and I guess you did. He changed. I like pushing his buttons since now it actually works.”

“I cannot believe it.”

He laughed. “Well, you really shouldn’t take me seriously all the time. It will be hurtful.”

“I guess,” I murmured. His words amazed me and actually made me happy. There was someone else who saw it. I was not delusional. Antonio really had emotions. He just needed time to work it out.

“Why did you guys fight?” Valerio asked.

I shrugged. I really didn’t know how to explain. “Well, he acted like an asshole, and then I pushed him a little hard. I didn’t want to hurt him more, so I came here. Pregnancy hormones made me too bold.”

Valerio had a huge fucking smile. “Damn, you are pregnant again. That is amazing.”

I smiled back at him. It was amazing, and I didn’t even have the time to celebrate. I wanted to go back. I wanted to celebrate with Antonio.

“Thank you,” I said happily. Whatever happens, I was going to go back home tomorrow. I wanted Antonio beside me.

Valerio came closer and hugged me. I was still surprised that he acted like this towards me, but I liked it. I hugged him back. I liked that someone so joyfully congratulated me on my baby.

Thiswas what supposed to happen. I neededthis.

When Valerio pulled back, there was a playful smile on his lips. “And a word of advice. I think you should push him hard. He needs that.”

I couldn’t help but laugh with him.

Antonio

I watched the city lights, crouched low on my chair and a glass of scotch in my hand. I didn’t turn my head to look. I knew whoever came inside was no threat because they used the elevator code. I also knew it was not Priscilla.

I knew the sound of her footsteps, and this was not it.

Whoever was in my house stopped on the living room entry. They turned on the lights, and I closed my eyes, getting uncomfortable from the sudden intrusion into my pupils.

Then footsteps started again, coming closer to me. “You know I can’t tell if you are too desperate to turn on the lights or you have been sitting here since the sun was up.”

Both.

I didn’t answer Salvatore. I didn’t even look up. “I apologize, but honestly, you are the last person I want to see right now.”

Since his fight with Priscilla, we have not talked unless it was work-related. I was not in the mood to listen to him talk badly about my wife. I was too on edge for that. I could just punch him without warning.

That would be not logical at all.

Salvatore pushed the other chair closer to mine. They were actually facing each other, but I turned mine to face the city. He still tried to get close to me by crouching, though. “I know,” he accepted. “But I am the person you should see because I feel like you did something stupid to fuck up your marriage, and I am an expert on that.”

I didn’t fuck up my marriage. Priscilla was going to come back tomorrow. I was going to apologize. I was going to fix this.
