Salvatore Vasile was standing on my threshold.

My body tensed in his presence even though I was almost sure he would not harm me. I still didn’t want to risk it and crossed my arms in front of my body like it was a great shield. “Before you kill me, you have to know that Mia and I made up.”

He looked at me with real confusion. “Both of you are really weird,” he murmured. Then his voice got louder. “Priscilla, you know I will never harm you, right. You are family. I was just angry back then.”

I lowered my arms, but my eyes remained skeptical. “It is good to be cautious.”

Salvatore shook his head and stepped closer to the bed I was sitting. He cleared his throat and looked at me. “I actually came to apologize.”

All of my alertness disappeared with that. I was shocked. Salvatore Vasile was here to apologize to me. Damn, today was a weird day.

Luckily, I loved weird.

My back straightened, but some doubt lingered in me. “I am listening.”

He smiled at my cocky position but didn’t get angry. “I am sorry for threatening your life,” he said, looking genuine. “I hope you know that I will never harm you.”

“I do,” I nodded but then bit down my lip. “Well, kind of.”

Salvatore lifted a brow in question.

“Okay, okay, I do,” I accepted. I was a little tense coming here after the fight, but I knew he would not really kill me or hurt me. If I actually believed he would, I would not joke about it a lot.

Salvatore nodded, satisfied with my answer. “Also, you are always welcome in this house. I really didn’t mean it. I just lost it seeing Mia cry. I am a little intense when it comes to her.”

That brought a little smile to my lips. I could tell he was very deeply in love with his wife. I understood how his brain worked seeing her cry. “That is okay,” I assured him. “I understand. I am intense when it comes to Antonio.”

His lips twitched. “I figured.” I smiled back, but his smile actually faded. Something dark filled his features. “I didn’t mean what I said before also. I guess I have to apologize for that the most. I am very sorry.”

His previous words.

It is not our fault that you married a man who is never going to love you or your children.

My throat dried up, and my hand instinctively went to my abdomen. Even remembering those words hurt, but this time I didn’t give in. I didn’t let them reach my bones. They didn’t mean anything.

I smiled at Salvatore. I knew it was a sad smile, but it was at least real. “No one has to believe he can because I do. I know those words are not true.”

“They are not,” he accepted.

“What?”

He rubbed the back of his neck like the topic made him uncomfortable, but he didn’t leave. “You were right about everything you said, Priscilla. We really disregarded his problems, and we didn’t even realize. He can love you, and I am damn sure he is going to love that baby.” He pointed at my belly. “We were just too blind to see it.”

First Valerio and now Salvatore.

I was completely stunned.

I didn’t ask what changed his mind. I didn’t ask why he said those words. I didn’t even ask how he already knew I was pregnant. I just threw myself at him and hugged him tightly, whispering, “Thank you.”

Pregnancy hormones were making me so damn emotional.

Salvatore froze for a second, probably shocked by my attack. But then he hugged me back. It was a nice hug. I could tell he gave these hugs to his siblings often.

I squeezed him more, and he chuckled, patting my head. “You really should go to him. He needs all your pushing, believe me.”

I giggled and pulled back. “I am going now. Dario is probably here to pick me.”

“Good,” Salvatore murmured and gave me a warm smile.
