I wiped my happy tears and got my duffel, moving out of the room. When I went to the driveway, Dario was already there, and I didn’t waste time before hopping on the passenger’s seat. “Good morning, Dario,” I said with a huge smile, and he gave me one in return. He seemed happy that my mood was up.

As he started driving to the penthouse, I finally checked my phone. I forgot to do that while getting dressed, so even Dario’s text was unanswered. There were also texts from Antonio and Kira.

I opened Antonio’s first.

Antonio: I am making waffles for you. I bought strawberry jam.

I grinned so hugely that for a second, I thought my mouth was going to rip open. I was so impossibly happy. I knew we had to talk about our fight yesterday. We shouldn’t act like nothing happened, but still, it didn’t bring my mood down. Antonio, waffles, and strawberry jam was the best solution to every problem in life.

I sent a heart-eye emoji and a strawberry emoji. Written words were just not enough to answer him right now. I needed to be face to face with him. I still sent the emojis, though, because I didn’t want him to worry.

Then I opened Kira’s texts.

Kira: OMG, I did something because you said you were feeling bad.

Kira: Can you make a stop before going home?

Kira: *Location*

My jaw dropped, and I texted back immediately.

Priscilla: are you in chicago?

I told her repeatedly not to come, but I also showed my sadness more than I normally would. She might gotten worried enough to fly here.

Fuck it. This was exactly the reason I always hid my pain.

Still, there was no way I was sending Kira back to New York. She was here for me. It made me happy, too, but I was more focused on the fact that she got all that trouble just because I couldn’t shut my mouth.

Kira’s text popped up soon.

Kira: I am at the location I sent. Can you come get me?

It was a restaurant not too far away.

Priscilla: on my way

I turned to Dario. “We need to make a stop. Kira is here. We will take her and then go to the penthouse.”

Dario tensed. “This is not the order.”

I rolled my eyes. This would have not happened if I knew Kira was coming. I still couldn’t believe she came without telling me. “We are not changing the destination,” I pushed Dario. “We are just going to make a stop. It is very close, I promise.”

“I don’t know Mrs. Mazzoni.”

“I can’t leave Kira there!”

Dario gritted his teeth. I could tell my words made him uncomfortable. He just wanted to follow the orders. “I can get her after I drop you off at the penthouse.”

“I cannot make her wait that long. Come on, we are close.”

He thought for a few seconds and then nodded. “Okay, but I am texting Mr. Mazzoni about the change of plans.”

“That is okay,” I replied but still rolled my eyes.

I gave Dario directions, and before five minutes, we reached the café. I unbuckled and opened my door but Dario was also getting ready to get out. I didn’t want him to waste more time by leaving the car and stuff. “Just wait here. I’ll take her and come back.”

He still came out of the car but didn’t follow me inside the restaurant. Instead, he leaned against the car and started typing something on his phone, no doubt to Antonio. I didn’t care; I was not doing something wrong or secret.
