When I stepped inside, my eyes roamed over the tables. There were not many people, and none of them were Kira.

“Can I help you?” a young woman with a nice smile approached.

I smiled back at the hostess. “I was looking for my friend. She is tall and has red hair.”

She thought for a moment, and then her kind smile came back. “Yes, I remember her. She is in this way.” She softly directed me deeper into the restaurant. It was a big place.

I let her show me to the back part of the restaurant. When we came to a spot far away from the front, I felt something bad in my stomach. There were tables in here, but it was so obvious that they were not occupied. This part was closed for business at this hour.

I took a step back. “I think I came to the wrong place,” I murmured. “I should go.”

Just when I turned, the woman pushed me back into the tables. I squeezed my eyes, preparing for the fall. At this point, my heart was beating like crazy. Something horrible was about to happen.

I wanted Dario to come inside. I wanted him to call Antonio. I needed to be rescued, no doubt.

My brain filled with all the ways I could fight back after I hit the floor, but I never did. Someone caught me. I opened my eyes, looking at the man holding me tightly.

My jaw dropped. My eyes widened.

I looked at the ugly smile on his face and whispered, “Michele?”

Chapter 36

Antonio

“Fucking pick up,” I murmured to the phone. It rang and rang just like it did for the last ten minutes, but no one answered.

Dario never does this.

I tried to calm myself. I tried to focus on the facts, but even they didn’t help. I knew something bad could have had happened.

Even when Dario texted me that they stopped to get Kira, my brain was filled with questions. Kira never seemed like the free-spirited type like Priscilla. I could see her coming here because Priscilla was sad, but I didn’t think she would do it without letting us know. Gabriele must have known, and he would inform us about his wife’s departure. Sending her with a few bodyguards was not enough.

I knew Gabriele knew this. I knew it was weird that he didn’t inform us, and it was also weird if Kira came without him knowing. Nothing was normal about it.

Yet I tried to be calm.

Dario was with Priscilla, so in case of an emergency, he would take action.

He told me that he was waiting outside of the restaurant while Priscilla got Kira. I told him to not let her out of sight. That’s why he actually needed to get into the restaurant a short while later.

Dario sent me the location and informed me how Priscilla was going at the back of the restaurant, so he was following her. He was going to call me when he got her.

I waited five minutes for him to get her and call me.

He didn’t.

So, I did. I called him, and when he didn’t pick up, I called him again. His phone rang for ten fucking minutes without an answer.

It could be something else. They could be perfectly well. Unfortunately, it was too great of a risk to take.

I moved into the elevator to get to the underground garage and called Dario again. At this point, I was frustrated, but I was also at loss of hope of him picking up. I needed to get there myself. I needed to get to her.

I internally cursed myself for not getting her myself. I could even ask for it from Salvatore. Maybe then this would not have happened.

As the doors opened, a click sounded from my phone. Dario picked up.

“Boss,” he said with heavy breaths.
