First, I looked at our family around the room. Antonio’s parents, his siblings, and their significant others. Then I craned my neck and looked at Antonio. A mock annoyance flashed in his eyes. “Tell them,” he said and kissed my cheek. He couldn’t stop kissing me.

I looked back at the room and then my baby. “Everybody, this is Antonio Mazzoni Jr.”

Everybody froze for a second in shock, and then Salvatore threw his head back and laughed. “You named your son after yourself? You are a true narcissist.”

“Hey, I did it,” I said. No one was allowed to attack my husband in my presence. “I just thought what could be more perfect than one Antonio Mazzoni in my life, and it was two Antonio Mazzonis.”

Everybody laughed a little except for Antonio’s father. I guessed it was normal for the older generation to name kids after their fathers. Every other person in the room was amused, though.

And I hadn’t even told them the best part. “We are going to call him Tony.”

This time Mia was the loudest. She knew so well that Antonio hated nicknames. He hated when someone called him Tony. I knew he was not going to hate our kid, though. It was my way of forcing the nickname on him. Now we had to use it daily.

Two Antonio would be too complicated.

“She always plays me,” Antonio murmured, but when I looked back at him, he looked so damn happy.

I knew he was because I could feel his happiness in my bones.

“We can call him AJ,” Alessio suggested.

Antonio growled at him, “No one is calling my kid AJ.”

We all laughed together happily, and when they left us alone, we were still happy. Me, Antonio and Tony. Our little family.

It was my perfect fairytale ending because Antonio missed one thing with his theory. He told me he was Hades and I was Persephone. That was not wrong. It made sense even more than Mars and Venus. Yet he didn’t grasp the story very well

Antonio thought Hades tricked Persephone with pomegranate seeds, but I knew Persephone ate those so she could be trapped by Hades. Persephone was the secret master of the game.

And in the end, she won everything she ever dreamt of.

THE END
