After my father’s short monologue about how happy he was about the union of our families, I wanted to get into the matter of date, but Priscilla beat me to it. “I want to get married on my birthday,” she said with an excited face.

From the uncomfortable look on Gabriele’s face, I guessed it must be close. From the fact that he didn’t say anything, I also gathered they talked about this before, and Priscilla won the argument.

“And when is that?” I asked.

“June 23rd.”

Three months. If it was up to me, I would have it in two months, but it was still better than I hoped for. I was almost sure Gabriele was going to make me wait for a year for the marriage.

Salvatore nodded and spoke before I could. “Early marriage would be good for the truce. We should make it official as fast as possible.”

“Three months is not enough to plan a wedding,” Gabriele said with a flat tone. It was obvious that he was trying too hard to keep it inside.

Priscilla sent her brother a hard look. “I am sure we can manage. I mean, what good money has if you can’t use it for things like these?”

One side of my mouth twitched, but I remained silent. If I talked, it would only make Gabriele angrier. Though Priscilla realized my small reaction and smiled so huge that I thought she was smiling for both of us.

My father chuckled. “In these things, it is always best to do what the bride wants. Trust me.”

Gabriele swallowed and nodded. “I suppose you are right.”

“So, we are getting married on June 23rd?” she asked. The question should have been aimed at the whole room, but her green eyes were focused only on me.

So, I answered without looking away because I didn’t know how would I even do that. “Yes.”

After lunch, Gabriele was eager to leave for the airport, but I still demanded a private chat with Priscilla. My request made him give me murder eyes, but they didn’t work on me. It must have been frustrating for him.

I told him it was only natural for me to want some private time with my fiancée, but he didn’t care about my words. Luckily, he cared about his sister’s. Priscilla said he was being unreasonable and whispered something in his ear. After that, Gabriele decided to leave us alone in the library for fifteen minutes.

When we stepped inside and I closed the doors behind us, Priscilla looked at me with dreamy eyes. I didn’t know how to react to that, so instead, I asked, “What did you say to Gabriele?”

She rolled her eyes, but her smile remained. “Do you want to use your fifteen minutes talking about my brother?”

“Maybe I am trying to find your tactics on how to lure people.”

“So, I wouldn’t lure you too?” she asked playfully, sending me a look over her shoulder as she walked deeper into the library.

It was a stupid question. “I don’t get lured,” I said as a matter of fact. When Priscilla turned back and lifted a golden brow in question, I explained further, “Since I don’t have emotions, you cannot manipulate my emotions. I act on logic. You can’t lure me.”

For some reason, my words amused her so much. She pressed her lips together in an attempt to trap her laughter in and nodded. “Of course, whatever you say.”

Since I couldn’t understand the reason for her amusement, I got uncomfortable. There was nothing funny about my words, and there was no reason for her to not believe me. I got confused and knew it was best to change the subject. I already had limited time and things to discuss anyway.

I cleared my throat to get rid of my annoyance. “I actually have another thing to talk to you.” To her credit, Priscilla immediately got serious and focused on me. “You can plan the wedding the way you like. If you want my ideas or help with anything, you can call me or text me. I don’t mind you choosing anything, but there is the topic of a ring. I should give you an engagement ring.”

She beamed up at me excitedly. “Now?”

I shook my head but softly brushed her side so I wouldn’t lose her smile. “I could have gone and bought one this morning, but I didn’t want that. I want to get it made for you, but since you are going to wear it, you should pick what kind of ring I am going to give you.”

Her hands came to the lapels of my jacket, and she shook her head. “The whole point is thatyouchoose the ring forme.”

I was afraid she was going to say that. “Okay, but maybe you can still tell me your preferences.”

Priscilla shook her head again. “No, you should pick it. Don’t you have any ideas?”

The small box in my pocket felt too heavy, but it also felt stupid. She should have had the ring she wanted. “You are going to be wearing it, Priscilla.”

“And I am going to wear it proudly. You’ll find an idea. You will have some time since I don’t think you will visit New York before the wedding.”
