They bubbled up with laughter on that, and I moved to take off my dress but then remembered something so important. “Oh, I need one more thing to make sure.” Then I shouted, “Michele!”

Both of my friends had wrinkled foreheads as I called for my least favorite brother. After a few seconds, he appeared in the living room with a frustrated expression. “What?”

“What do you think about my dress?” I asked so very innocently.

He crossed his arms as his eyes narrowed on me. “This is your wedding dress?”

“Yes.”

“I thought wedding dresses were supposed to make you look like virginal sacrifices,” he said while eyeing my cleavage and leg that was showing from the slit.

I bit down the inside of my cheek. “And how do I look?”

“You look like a whore,” he almost spat the last word on my face.

Beatrice gave a loud gasp, but I started laughing like crazy. To everybody’s horrified looks, I just declared, “This is the dress!”

I left my friends laughing behind to go back to my room and change. Thank God I had a room in this new house, and I didn’t need to go back to the Hamptons. This house was big enough for me to live with them while still giving Kira and Gabriele enough space to have their privacy. They couldn’t have sex in the kitchen or something, but if they had those kinds of kinks, they could have it after I was gone.

When I reached my room, before I could close the door, a foot stuck between the door and the frame. I opened it, knowing those ugly shoes belonged to my dear brother Michele.

“Did you come back to apologize?” I asked with a mocking face.

He rolled his eyes, obviously frustrated with me. It was his normal state anyway. But then something else filled his eyes. Something almost dangerous. “I just wanted to make sure you remember our agreement, Prisy.”

I liked that nickname, but it came out so ugly from his mouth. It was supposed to be loving, but Michele was never loving towards me.

Luckily, I didn’t give a fuck. “What agreement, may I ask?”

“Priscilla!” he said in a warning tone.

I was really not playing. I had no idea what he was talking about. So, I repeated, “What agreement, Michele?”

His jaw flexed. “I helped you get your little prize. Without me, you wouldn’t be engaged to the Consigliere.”

This time it was my turn to roll my eyes. “As I recall,Idid everything. Antonio got attracted tome, and thenImade Gabriele say yes. You were just happened to be there.”

He still didn’t get it. “If I didn’t let you go out that night to fuck him, he wouldn’t have asked for your hand, and we both know it.”

Well, he was terribly wrong. First of all, I didn’t fuck Antonio. I didn’t fuck anyone ever, but he really didn’t need to know that. Also, I knew Antonio would still have asked for my hand. He shaved his beard for me. He asked me before asking Gabriele. He wanted me, and he was not the type of guy who would let something he wanted go. I knew it deep within. It was not even about the truce. He would have married me anyway.

I just knew it.

I could have told all of those to Michele, but I didn’t want to. I didn’t want to explain myself, and I didn’t want to explain my relationship with Antonio. He didn’t deserve any glimpse into any of our lives. “Okay, Michele. Thank you so much. I am grateful for all your help. Now can I please change?”

Some satisfaction filled his eyes, but he didn’t make any move to leave. “I don’t need your fucking gratitude. I want your help. I want you to be my spy in Chicago.”

That almost made me laugh. Almost because he seemed too damn serious about it. “You want me to spy my husband foryou.”

“He is not your real family Priscilla. I am your real family.”

“Gabriele is my real family!” I said harshly. He might be my blood, but he was not my family. Antonio was more of my family than him even now. “I am not hurting Antonio just because you wanted. We are in a truce, Michele. Why the fuck do you need a spy?”

My question made him uncomfortable, but he was putting his best act to conceal it. It was not very good. He swallowed before answering to shake off his tenseness. He was so damn transparent. “I need it in case they plan something shady. I am trying to protect my family. I don’t trust them.”

I didn’t think they were going to betray the truce, especially after it was sealed with a marriage, but I still played softly. Maybe it would make him leave me alone. “Maybe you should talk to Gabriele instead of pushing me.”

“I don’t want to make him worry,” he said, but it didn’t sound true at all. He saw my skeptical face, and his mask fell. He got closer, and his voice got quieter. “I want to make something good for him, Priscilla. I want him to trust me more than he trusts Roberto. That trip was the first step. If I know what is going on in Chicago, maybe I can be more in his eyes. He is my older brother. I want his approval.”
