Everybody smiled at that, but my body went rigid. I tried my best to act like everything was okay, but the words clenched my heart. I hated how easily he said those words to the others while I knew he was never going to say them to me.

It was an unbearable reminder.

I was able to put on my happy mask back on quickly since I was very good at that, but my mood remained sour. I could tell Antonio was aware, too, but he didn’t say anything. He only rubbed his thumb on my hip reassuringly whenever I got a little tense.

When the crowd around us calmed down a bit, I asked Antonio, “Can we dance?” I hoped for it to fix my mood.

Antonio nodded, “Of course.” But just when he was about to pull me to the dance floor, a woman approached us with a charming smile. She was probably in her early thirties; she had short red hair and was wearing a black glittery dress. She legit looked like a runway model. Confidence was pouring out of her pores.

“Antonio,” she said with a rich, seductive tone. That made Antonio slightly tense beside me. Seeing her eyes almost drinking up the entire length of my husband had the same effect on me.

“Jennifer,” he greeted her. I couldn’t tell if he was uncomfortable with her presence or not. It was hard to read him, especially when we were in a crowd.

Jennifer threw her arms around Antonio and hugged him too close for my liking. She was much taller than me, so it was easier for her. Fortunately, Antonio barely hugged her and pulled back almost immediately from her embrace.

I was sending deadly looks her way, but she didn’t even throw me a glance. Her eyes were on Antonio, and she was looking at him so hungrily that I wanted to punch her. Didn’t she know he was married now? Didn’t she care that I was literally here?

“I haven’t seen you in forever,” she said, pouting her lip. “You are not coming to the club lately.”

Antonio’s jaw hardened. “I have been very busy.” Then he turned to me and wrapped an arm around my waist, pulling me to his side but slightly to his front, almost like a barrier between him and Jennifer.

Oh, good, I don’t have to kill him.

“Priscilla, this is Jennifer Washington. Jennifer, this is mywife, Priscilla.” I liked the prominent tone he used while saying, wife.

I held out my hand to her. “Nice to meet you.”

Unfortunately, the woman was insistent on being a bitch. She shook my hand, but her eyes drank me in with disgust. After that, she turned back to Antonio like I was never even there.

“I genuinely thought you were dead when you didn’t answer my calls,” she said and laughed in a seductive way.

Antonio shook his head. “No, just busy. You know, the married life.”

“Oh, fortunately, I don’t know, but it must be a burden to bear.”

I used all my willpower not to jump on her and pull all of that red hair out of her head. “It is quite nice actually, thank you,” I answered.

The woman had the decency to ignore me like I was not there. “You should come to the club once in a while. We will have fun.”

Fuck this woman.

Antonio’s expression didn’t change at all. “We will come soon. I want to show it to Priscilla.”

I could tell she hated his responses, but she was also not giving up. “Ah, great. Please give me a call sometime.”

“Will do,” Antonio said in a way that made it so obvious it was a lie. “We need to go now. I think Salvatore wants to speak to me.”

“Okay,” Jennifer chirped. “Don’t forget.”

Antonio didn’t answer but instead walked towards Sal and Mia while pulling me with the arm around my waist.

I stopped midway because I really didn’t want to have an argument in front of them. “Did you fuck her?” I whispered. I didn’t think any woman would get this desperate for a random man.

Antonio’s jaw ticked, and he looked away from me. “I don’t understand why it is important.”

“Damn, you did.” I shook my head, my mood getting even shittier. “I hate this.”

“Priscilla,” he said with a soft voice and caressed my waist. “You know I had past lovers. I never acted like you were the first woman in my life.”
