Luciana

“They are,” I said to Bianca. We were sitting on one of the benches and watching the girls play. “But they are also a lot of work, so I am glad you are here.”
“I knew it! You invited me just for the babysitting duty.”
Honestly, it was nice that I could so easily tell that it was a joke now. Normally I would have doubted it for a second just because she was talking to me, but Chicago didn’t just give me love, but it also gave me friendship. Bianca and I were close now, and even though I didn’t see my friends from the university a lot since Elsie came here, they still existed. I was now a bit more comfortable with getting close to them.
I didn’t think I was going to be the most popular person around, but I was going to have friends. I didn’t want to uphold the reputation people who hated me created anymore. I was just going to be Luciana, and Luciana was not going to be alone ever again.
“I like having you around, but I have to admit your babysitting skills are also a plus.”
She chuckled. “No problem at all. I love kids.”
Bianca was just like Valerio when it came to kids. She loved them, and the kids loved her back. She really knew how to interact with them. That made a question pop into my head. “Do you want your own?”
I realized a second too late that it might not be a very kind question, but Bianca didn’t seem offended at all. “Fuck, yes,” she said. “I’ll definitely have kids. I just need to find the right lady.”
I smiled but also remembered how Verona said she never wanted to have kids. Their situation was bothering me more and more because it was making Bianca sad. I just wanted her to move on from Verona. I would never say this to Valerio, but Bianca deserved better than Verona.
“Well, she will be the luckiest lady out there,” I said.
Bianca smiled and threw her hair. “Of course, she will be.” Then her eyes focused on something, and her smile disappeared.
“What happened?”
“That douchebag over there keeps looking at us,” she said, pointing with her chin. “I don’t like it.”
She was talking about a man sitting on another bench. He looked away when my eyes fell on him. He was in dress pants and a black T-shirt. He was a muscular guy with harsh features. The weirdest of them all was that he didn’t have a kid with him. Maybe his kid was playing, but still, it didn’t sound right to my ears.
He gave me a bad feeling, but I tried to be more factual. “He is just sitting there. He is probably looking at us because he saw us come here with three bodyguards. Outsiders don’t see that kind of thing every day.”
Bianca looked at me with narrowed eyes. “You are full of bullshit. You cannot tell me he isn’t giving you creepy vibes.”
