“I'm fine. I’d been arguing with my aunt all day and she had already threatened to call my parents. We have avoided each other all day since then, and I don’t even know if she called them yet.”

“Oh. Well, about that. I have some news for you.”

“What’s that?”

“Your aunt. She came visiting.”

“Oh, no. You don’t mean it!”

I proceeded to tell her all about it. I had guessed she knew a bit about it, but I was shocked to see that she didn’t.

“What?! I can’t believe she did that. I’m sorry! Thanks for not being violent with her and staying patient. That woman is truly a handful, and I am tired of her, to say the least!” she said. I hoped I had not caused further issues by telling her about it. Hopefully, I had not.

“Come on, let it go. Don’t go to your aunt and be making trouble with her now. I just wanted you to know what she did. It’s okay. It’s part of issues like this, so don’t get too worried. We will find a way around this, trust me.”

After we hung up, I hoped my words would do enough to pacify her. I knew her too well. She could be a nutcase sometimes.

Chapter Thirteen

Claire

Iwalkedwithconvictionas I approached my aunt's house. I was pissed off and genuinely wanted to give her a piece of my mind. She was so annoying. I had no reason to hold back now.

“Claire, is everything okay?”

“No, Aunty! I can’t believe you went to his house to insult him. He told me all about what you said and I’m so disappointed that you did that!”

“I had to.”

“What? You had to go insult a huge man like that? If he was not a gentleman, you sure deserved a whack in the face, Aunty! Yes. I said it!”

“What? Why are you being so rude to me because of a man? “ she said, looking so shocked. She may have thought that I would not have the balls to face her. Well, I don’t have balls literally, but I faced her.

“I'm not being rude. I’m just being straight to the point! I don’t like how you talked to him on my behalf. I’m an adult and I know what is good for me! “ I was screaming atop my voice already, and I almost didn’t realize it.

“Oh, shut up. You are shouting at me in my own house. If you want to destroy your life, that is fine by me. But don’t you go on and be insulting your aunt because of a man who may not even care about you!”

“He cares about me and I know it! If he didn’t, he would not want to father or cater to the responsibilities of the child. I want to be with him and I think you should respect that. Stop looking at me as a kid because I’m not your child! I’m an adult now and I should be treated with the utmost respect!”

“My God. Claire, you sound upset. If that pissed you off that much, I have to say I’m sorry honey. You know I was looking out for you and the anger at the moment made me say the wrong things!”

“Yes, Aunty. But you didn’t offend me. You insulted him, not me. He’s a man with a son already. It is not easy, so he does deserve respect. You should apologize to him for causing him such embarrassment.”

My aunt looked at my face to be sure I meant what I had said. But I didn’t budge. I meant all I said, and my aunt could see that already. It was refreshing for the latter to see that her niece was already coming of age. Confronting her and making a good decision was simply something an adult would do. I was happy with this guy. She had to respect that and be happy for me. After all, from the look of things, I was in love with him, and understandably so.

“Alright. I will apologize!” my aunt said. I was happy to hear that, especially since my aunt seemed to be serious about what she uttered. But she was reluctant anyway. I knew she would not have agreed to apologize if he didn’t seem so important to me. But it was understandable. He had screwed and impregnated me, so automatically, he was the father of my child. That alone brought a lot of respect to Jonah's name in my life.

“Aunt, you don’t have to pretend. If you’re going to apologize to him, let me know the truth. But if you’re not, let me know too. You are free to do what you like, ma'am. I don’t want to sound like I’m afraid because I’m not. I just want you to apologize to him. That’s all that’s about.”

“Okay, okay. I will. This time, I genuinely mean it. I will go to his home and let him know I’m sorry for all the nasty things I said.”

“Nasty?” my ears rang for a second after hearing that word.

“I didn’t mean nasty in that sense. I meant being insulting. I think it’s better to apologize for that.”

Jonah was at home when she went to see him. My aunt was the kind of woman that preferred to get things over with, and she grew up with that behavior. Unfortunately, it made her a little too confrontational, and lost a few suitors and friends because of that.

“Hey.”
