“One day, I’m going to kill you...” grumbled Eden.

That was if said ex-partner didn’t kill her first. She could easily imagine Circé and Warlock’s relationship: work-based only, cold, and arguing all the time...

“Thao,” said Dante’s voice. “Last chance. More of the Core’s people are coming in, and you won’t be able to hold on long enough. I have control of their weaponry, you’re locked in here. I don’t care about killing you, so don’t waste my time. Yes or no?”

Eden rolled to the side and hid behind a console in the middle of the room, catching a break. She was getting really tired of this fight, running around in an enclosed space and making impossible moves to avoid those darts... She looked down at her legs, pretty damaged by all this. From banging them against the computers to taking a few gunshots, she hadn’t spared them today. Perhaps she’d take Dante’s offer to have them changed, after all...

“Fine!” grunted Thao. “It’s an alliance, but just this once. After that, I’m killing your tiger ass!”

“A very fine ass, one might add,” chuckled Loir.

Eden blushed, trying to forget that she had thought the exact same thing just a second ago...

At least, two Zodiacs pairing up to fight the Core back was better than a tripartite fight. There was still something strange: where was the Snake? So far, they had been fighting the Yakuza, but there had been no sighting of Yasumoto, which made no sense when the whole building was under siege...

“Loir, any sign of the Snake?” she asked.

“A Japanese guy, a Japanese guy, or a Japanese guy?” sighed Loir. “There are tons of little men with tattoos, mean faces, and monolids in there! How am I supposed to know which is which?!”

“Yasumoto has red hair, tattoos that mimic scales all over his body, and two scars on his face,” said Dante, in between several gunshot sounds.

He and Thao had probably come together to fight against the Core’s men and the Japanese, as Eden could hear the woman’s voice somewhere not far from Dante.

“Oh, we’re looking for a punky snakey then... Let me see... Snakey, snakey, snakey... Damn, I’m going to want a steak with all this. ...Or need a new handbag.”

“Loir, shut up and find him...” sighed Eden.

“Gotcha! I found him! Our Chucky-Godzilla mix is in the... Oh... Are those shiny dark stuffs around him all guns? I mean, they could be toys, right? But just in case, there are a lot. Someone went shopping in Bulletland!”

“He locked himself up in the armory,” grumbled Eden. “Of course. With three different enemies, he’s probably waiting for you all to kill each other...”

“Or for me to open the door!” said Loir. “Don’t forget this cutie pie here controls everything! Should I kick them out and direct them where we want them? Oh, I feel like I’m playing Pac-Man... Let’s play Pac-Sushi!”

“...Bring them out,” said Dante.

Eden could almost hear the ice-cold smile in his voice. There was about to be a blood bath downstairs... She let out a long sigh, still tired despite her little break.

“Circé, I don’t want to fight you!”

“You’re doing the opposite so far... You damn bitch, you broke my finger!”

“Well, I’m not even sorry. But, I can stop if you fucking leave me be. You walk the fuck out of this room and disappear. I promise we won’t kill you.”

“You think you can promise me safety?” scoffed the other woman. “You’re one delusional chick, aren’t you? If not the Zodiacs, the Core will kill me the second I run away!”

“True that,” sighed Loir. “I wondered how that old witch survived... Wait, how did she survive?”

“You made a deal with them?” asked Eden.

“A deal? Those bastards attached a bomb to my SIN! If I do or say one thing they don’t like, I’ll die.”

“Oh, someone’s gone past their life expectancy... Poor witchy...”

Eden sighed, and let her head rest against the wall behind her.

“Circé, if I could deactivate that bomb, would you give up?”

“...What?”
