“I thought you already had full control...?” sighed Eden, glaring at Circé.

“Well, you know, this kind of system doesn’t exactly work like a five-star restaurant! It’s a first-come-first-serve basis, and even if we are served junk food, it cares about the first customer first...”

“What the hell do you mean?!”

“Circé got there first, she still has a foot in the system, and so does the Core! I’m like the queen bee trying to fight off the rebel soldiers before they destroy the hive, Kitty! Although I’d make one sexy queen...”

“Loir, we can’t let them get to the weapons,” grunted Eden, “...or me.”

“I know, my Kitty, I’m thinking, I’m thinking... Take a seat, I’ll let you know when I got a ride ready for ya!”

“I can’t go anywhere anyway!”

Just as she said that, Circé sent another deadly needle her way, and their fight resumed. Both women were tired and desperate to get rid of the other. Eden hadn’t planned on fighting in here, and her outfit was so inconvenient too! She had already ripped and thrown aside what was hindering her, but there was still a lot of fabric in her way, floating around with each movement. She regretted not being able to get into the Dark Reality, where it wouldn’t have mattered much.

“Kitty, I have good news!”

“Good... news?” she grunted, sending another kick into Circé’s stomach and throwing her against one of the walls.

“Yes, they are here to capture you!”

Eden rolled her eyes.

“Loir, one day we’re going to discuss your notion of good news...”

“No, no, seriously! They don’t want to kill you! This genius bald ball here managed to trace the signal back to the Core’s own epicenter; you know, the kind of genius move only I can do. Anyways! You can clap later.”

“I won’t clap,” Eden groaned for herself, dodging another dart.

Circé kept throwing more and more of them, it was impressive she was carrying that many weapons in her hair alone. Not just that, but Circé managed to pick up the hairpins she had used to kill the people in the room before and threw them at Eden as she was dodging them. It was hard to fight someone who was a long-range fighter when Eden was obviously a close-range fighter. Circé was trying to keep her at bay while attacking, and Eden had nothing to send back. She didn’t have that woman’s dexterity for throwing her weapons back, and since she had realized they were poisoned, she’d rather not touch them at all!

At least each blow Eden threw at her was a big win. Whether she hit her with her fists or her legs, Circé was not good at guarding herself and didn’t have much endurance either. She was already trying to hold her stomach as she had received two kicks there and grimaced at each movement.

“My little pipsqueak was their gaslighter! I mean, I know I am quite a master in the art of coding, but I didn’t think they would recognize my inimitable signature style! Either way, they duplicated my type of hacking and probably put some firewalls in all the systems. I bet some of that tech was the Core’s...”

“What is he saying?” grumbled Dante.

“Basically, they recognized Loir’s hacking signature and since that bitch had already opened a door here for the Core, they picked up on it. Some of the Japanese tech was stolen from the Core, so they probably managed to trigger something that would recognize him... to find me.”

“They are after...”

“Ghost,” Eden dropped, annoyed.

Facing her, Circé, who was catching her breath, frowning, visibly shocked.

“You’re... Ghost?”

Eden glared back, annoyed with that woman for even thinking she’d answer. She had been very discreet, but after Diving so many times with the same Back Hacker, and exposing herself a bit more on each mission, it was still irritating that they had managed to find her. The Core probably had no idea who Ghost was, they only knew Ghost was trapped behind those doors. She was a huge thorn in their System, and the Core got rid of the tiniest bug they could find in their machine without thinking twice...

“They don’t know,” she quickly said to Dante. “They just want to kill Ghost while they’re at it; they don’t know.”

Even if the Core thought they could trap Ghost upstairs, their main goal was still probably the weapons a few floors below. Yet, with Circé here and two gangs fighting downstairs, the Core had probably weighed their chances of success and thought they should get rid of their long-declared enemy first, take back the control room, and only after, get to the weapons. Eden couldn’t let them succeed in any of these missions.

More motivated than before, she threw another fist Circé’s way, hoping to get rid of that woman this time.

“Loir, will you open these damn doors already?” grumbled Eden.

“Coming up, darling, but with two ladies destroying half the tech in there, I’m not braiding my hair over here! Damn, if I had thought one day my Kitty partner would find my ex-partner... Is that what they call a ménage à trois? Oh my, so thrilling! No wonder they make TV shows out of this!”
