“You did quite a good job as one, actually.”

“Fuck you.”

It had been a ten-second decision, but now, Eden was regretting shielding that man. If the Tiger wasn’t worse than Yang, he certainly felt much more dangerous. She hated being trapped at a man’s mercy, especially this one. Plus, she could tell this wasn’t going to be an easy one to get out of, now that she was in his... bedroom. She glanced around.

“Where am I?”

“My bed. My bedroom.”

“Where am I?” she insisted.

“My penthouse, in the Italian district. I thought you’d enjoy the view once you woke up.”

Eden frowned. The view? So this was a real window? She glanced at it once again, but she couldn’t trust that man’s words anyway. This whole room might be just a trap to lure in some idiotic women who found it appealing to wake up naked in a mafia lord’s bed... She had never been to the Italian district before; she’d much rather stay away. What kind of trouble had she gotten herself into?

“I’ll be going back now,” she said. “Give me my clothes, and I’m getting out of there.”

“No.”

His tone was too firm for Eden to even try and bargain. She had made it this far because she had good conservative instincts, but now, this was the worst situation she could have faced. She had no idea how to get out of there. She pulled the bed sheets a bit closer to her body, trying to think fast, but she knew she’d have no choice but to negotiate. The only good point was that he looked disarmed. With his current outfit, she would probably have seen if he had a weapon on him. Yet, that wasn’t enough for Eden. She took a deep breath.

“What do you want? Why me?” she asked.

“I told you, I’m very curious about you. I think you are hiding some secrets from me, like your hacking abilities.”

“I’m not a hacker,” she stubbornly repeated.

“I wonder why you’re so obsessed with keeping it a secret and so good at hiding it,” he said, ignoring her. “I think you have a friend outside, but he wouldn’t have been able to help you if you weren’t a hacker yourself. However, we couldn’t find anything on your SIN, which means you are either not a hacker... or a very good one.”

Eden remained silent. She was tired of repeating the same thing over and over again and just hoped he’d finally say what he really wanted from her. He stood up, putting his hands in his pockets, and came closer. Eden immediately stepped back.

“Are you going to remain so stubborn?” he asked.

“Probably.”

He nodded, looking upset. Then, he turned his head toward the door, and a man walked in. He was a thin, tall guy with freckles, also dressed in a shirt and suit pants. Eden’s eyes widened. That man had a gun, and he handed it to his boss right away. She backed away again, wary.

Dante raised his arm, pointing the weapon at her.

“Still a no?”

Eden clenched her teeth. This was probably just an act... or was it? She tried to think fast. She didn’t want to die, that was a given. However, what other choice did she have? If the Italian found out she was Ghost, she’d get killed eventually. That bounty on her head was too high of a sum to make her think it was any good. She would only be buying some time. Maybe she could survive? Although Eden wasn’t nearly optimistic enough to think a mafia lord would miss, not when she was that close. Maybe, if she dived right in time, rolled on the floor, and rushed toward the door, then...

“I’m waiting.”

His cold voice made her look at him again, but this time, at his weapon. Could she kick it out of his hand? That was one really crazy bet... De Luca sighed.

“George.”

The other guy nodded and left the room, making Eden even warier. Why would he ask one of his men to leave the room if he was about to shoot her? Her heartbeat went up a notch.

However, the freckled guy came back, and to her shock, he wasn’t empty-handed. He had a gun in his hand, and in the other, a puppy that was whining and wriggling around.

Bullet.

Eden’s heart sank. They had her dogs? Would they use it as leverage against her? Dante chuckled, seeing her baffled expression.

“We found two really cute pups in the bar’s basement. I thought I had seen them somewhere before.”
