“You won’t need your SIN if we leave,” he said.

“What? I can’t walk around without a SIN. I won’t be allowed anywhere!”

A SIN was a very little device implanted under their skin, but it was indispensable in most aspects of life. They used it to buy things, as I.D., but also to communicate with other people, access database information, or even be allowed inside some buildings. Not having a SIN was the equivalent of being homeless or an animal!

Of course, the Italian Tiger was well aware of all that. He smirked.

“You’re my bodyguard, Eden. I’m one of the Zodiacs. You’ll see that if I say you don’t need a SIN, you don’t need a SIN.”

Eden glared at him. She had never signed up to be his slave!

Although she knew a Zodiac going out had to be somewhat of a big deal security-wise, Eden was shocked at how ceremonial it felt. Walking behind Dante, she was annoyed by how all his men bowed to him and avoided looking up in his presence yet still checked her out. She’d much rather have been invisible. She hated being under someone’s scrutiny, even more so if they were all male.

At least she wasn’t wearing anything revealing. If it was her, she would have never picked something so elegant, and instead, she would have gone for whatever covered her skin the most. She hated when men looked at her, and here, she felt too exposed. She wasn’t sure if she could keep the pups with her, but no one told her anything as Bullet and Beer stayed stuck to her heels. Like her, the two young dogs looked rather uncomfortable and unsure about this new environment, so they quietly followed.

Still, Eden was shocked by how big the place was. It took a long time before they reached the elevator, and at the speed at which they got downstairs, she had calculated they had been at least thirty floors up. How could she get out of there if he kept her upstairs? Maybe there were some emergency exit stairwells?

The parking lot was filled with shiny brand new cars, all Italian brands, of course. Eden couldn’t help but be envious; she loved cars. She sometimes even used her SIN to play some online races, and she was actually good enough to have won the prize money a few times.

“Want to drive?”

Dante’s amused expression as he agitated the keys under her nose activated Eden’s stubbornness instantly. She shook her head and sent a glare back. He smiled. That was probably the reaction he expected from her anyway.

A dozen people were apparently coming along with them. Eden wondered if this was too much or not enough. They were all wearing perfect Italian suits, but none looked as good or neat as the one on Dante De Luca. She would have never said it out loud, but he was very elegant under the blue lights of the parking lot. He was actually rather tall, regardless of the little heels on his soles.

Eden stopped staring, realizing she had her eyes fixed on his side for too long.

“Here.”

He turned on a black Lamborghini, and Eden’s heart jumped in her chest. She was going to sit in this thing? To her surprise, Dante went to the car alone while all of his men, Rolf included, scattered to take various cars, none half as luxurious as his. She hesitated, but he opened the passenger’s door with a smile, waiting for her. Frowning, Eden carefully put her pups down on the passenger’s side and got inside the car. She tried not to look impressed by the gorgeous leather or the widescreen.

“Do you have any preferences?” he asked, starting the engine.

“On what?”

“Food, of course. I’m taking you on a date. I might as well start to know your tastes.”

Eden’s brain stopped for a second, and she blinked, turning to him as if he was some idiot. Regardless of her feelings at the moment, the car had already begun driving itself out of the parking lot, a line of black cars preceding or following it.

After a few seconds, she realized he must have been making fun of her, so she sighed, thinking what an idiot she was, and leaned back against the seat, crossing her arms.

“It’s not a date,” she retorted. “Moreover, I’d advise you to take your whores out before trying to kill them.”

“I didn’t try to kill you.”

“You used me as a human shield. Call it whatever you want. You tried to kill me.”

“I did not. If I wanted to kill you, I would have done so on the first try.”

“Lucky me.”

Her bitter answer was given with a snarl as she was staring outside. She didn’t want to trust one word he said or to even think he was somewhat innocent in anything. She hated him, and she had no problem showing it. After all, she had been forced into this situation, no more and no less.

De Luca remained silent for a little while. He had put the car in manual mode, so she wondered if he was only pretending to be absorbed in his driving. Eden truly didn’t care. She kept staring outside at the Italian district she always avoided normally. It wasn’t unpleasant, though. It was actually one of the safest neighborhoods for those who could afford to live there.

“How did you come to live on the Eagle’s territory?”

“The neighborhood was cheap.”
