“But you weren’t born there.”

Eden glared at him. She was annoyed that he was suddenly prying into her private life. She shook her head.

“...I don’t know where I was born.”

“It’s strange that your SIN couldn’t give out that information either.”

Of course, it couldn’t. Eden’s SIN had been carefully encrypted by Loir several times to hide as much information as possible. Although they said they had scanned it already, she knew her partner hacker was good enough to give them only the tip of the iceberg and keep the real information hidden.

“Your SIN didn’t know your birth name, your birthplace, or even your exact birth date,” continued Dante. “Isn’t that strange?”

“What’s strange is that you care so much,” retorted Eden. “I thought you picked me up to be your bodyguard and hacker, not your conversation partner.”

“I’m of a curious nature.”

“Try being of a mind-your-own-business nature.”

Their banter felt childish, but Eden just didn’t want to give in to him. She would clam up and make sure not a single bit of information about herself came out of her lips. She had too many secrets to protect.

“...It’s strange that your mother is registered as a Native.”

Eden’s blood suddenly went cold. This time she turned her head to glare at him, her hands gripping on to the leather seat.

“...Why the hell did you look into my mother?”

“I told you, curious nature,” he retorted with a smirk.

“De Luca, I swear, if you get within an inch of my mother–”

“Oh, why would I do that?”

Eden didn’t trust him. She was mad and annoyed at this half-threat. If they had found her mother, they already knew too much. Eden’s mother was her weak point. If Dante got to her, she might as well be his slave for her whole life.

Trying her best to keep a cool head, Eden’s brain went into overdrive. Although he may have found out about her mother, Dante De Luca probably hadn’t been able to find her physical location. Her mother’s information had been as hidden as Eden’s was, and she trusted the hacker to at least have done a decent job with that... No, De Luca was probably toying with her, acting like he knew everything to make her talk. Crossing her arms even tighter, Eden silently promised herself to keep her damn mouth shut from there on.

“...So, how did you become a Part?”

Eden rolled her eyes, looking back outside and staying silent.

“I doubt you needed that kind of enhancement from what I’ve seen of your skills. You actually rely on those legs a bit too much, in my opinion. No, I wouldn’t think it was voluntary. Plus, not many people can afford that change, and with everything it implies... Were you in an accident? Although people rarely become Parts due to an accident; they usually want to make some dirty money...”

She remained silent.

“Do you know what they do with the human parts that are sold? Most of the time, they use them for experiments. If they are good, the people in the Core use them for their own bodies. They can buy thin, pretty, white legs whenever they want. Sometimes, they even use them for their androids. Can you imagine machines walking around with human parts…?”

“Have you considered selling your mouth?” asked Eden. “I don’t think you’ll get a good price if you keep using it so much.”

De Luca chuckled.

“The funniest part is, they call us Parts, but they are Parts too as soon as they buy what we sell. They are just better at hiding it.”

“...Us?” repeated Eden, intrigued.

De Luca turned to her, his golden eyes suddenly glowing.

“You didn’t think these were natural, did you?”

This time, she really was surprised. ...This guy was a Part too?
