Eden rolled her eyes again. He really had an answer for everything, didn’t he? Especially for things that weren’t going his way in the first place.

“Well, that’s too bad,” she retorted. “I don’t sleep with anybody.”

“I’m not anybody.”

“I meant I don’t sleep with anyone!”

This time, her angry answer had him raise an eyebrow. Eden wasn’t just annoyed by him; it was obvious talking about this made her angry. She was even more bent on avoiding eye contact and wore a sullen expression. Dante tilted his head, his smile even more of a smirk now.

“...Why is that?”

Eden let out a long sigh.

“I just can’t sleep with anyone, alright? That’s just how it is.”

“Why?”

“I told you, there is no why!” she yelled, suddenly jumping up and backing away. “I just can’t! I can’t sleep with someone else in the room, let alone in the same bed! Try sleeping in the streets when you’re a girl, you’ll know why!”

This time, Dante lost his smile, changing to an unhappy expression. Eden noticed, but somehow, it made her even more embarrassed, and she hated that. Yes, she had slept in the streets and it hadn’t been the best experience. It had shaped her into an overly cautious woman. She didn’t trust anyone that was a man, and she couldn’t sleep with anyone either. It didn’t matter if they had sex or not, the level of intimacy was completely different in her mind. If she felt someone close in her sleep, she’d wake up instantly. Her survival instincts took over, and fear would crawl into her mind and keep her awake. Realizing she may have overreacted without knowing, Eden took another step back, crossed her arms, and sighed.

“Anyway, I... I won’t sleep with you.”

“...I won’t force you,” he suddenly said.

For a second, she wondered if he was mocking her again, or if this was another one of his cunning remarks. Yet, there wasn’t a shadow of a smile on his face. His expression was the most serious too, and it even took her by surprise. Eden was the one to be mocking him this time.

“You aren’t talking seriously, are you?” she said. “Coming from the man who already kidnapped me twice?”

“I don’t think I forced you. The first time, you passed out while protecting me. I brought you here, healed you, and you left.”

“I left during a gunfight you had staged to have me lead you to Loir and capture the two of us this time. Isn’t that the same?”

“I captured you? I thought this was an open invitation. Your partner seems satisfied.”

“Can you please stop judging Loir with normal criteria only when it suits you?”

“You didn’t have to follow him either.”

“You made a fair point of having me come.”

He opened his arms.

“I don’t think you’ve been at a disadvantage at any point, have you?”

“I did state I didn’t want anything to do with you.”

“And still there you were, kissing me not ten minutes ago.”

This time, Eden had nothing to respond with. She blushed again, embarrassed to death by that kiss. Yes, she had kissed him, and even worse, she had fully taken part in that kiss, and liked every second of it. What was wrong with her? Her instincts and her actions didn’t match. It didn’t make sense for her to have given in, but... it was good.

“...You slept with those two,” he suddenly said.

Eden frowned and looked behind her, suddenly remembering the pups. Her mouth was left open in shock.

“...Seriously? You’re going to be jealous of my dogs now? They are dogs!”

“They are puppies and noisy and brawly.”
