“Loir!”

“Try the one on your left.”

Eden followed his instructions, although she wasn’t pleased that Loir really didn’t sound sure at all. She was heading toward some sort of carousel. Like all the others, the attraction was playing and spinning at a normal pace. However, Eden had another issue as she approached.

There were barriers in front of the ride, and in front of those barriers were large silhouettes.

“Oh, crap...”

“What’s that?” whined Loir. “...A boogeyman and his twin?”

Eden turned her feet in the other direction, immediately running away.

“Clowns!” she yelled.

She could tell from the red noses, white faces with big, creepy smiles, strange outfits, and orange hair. But those weren’t funny clowns; they were the type that belonged in a horror film. Eden just knew she had to get out of there, as they were probably on the bots’ team.

“Loir, I really need an exit now!” Eden shouted again, as she spotted more enemies coming from the direction she had taken.

She was now running erratically through the park, unable to pick a destination, yet she couldn’t stop. This space was extremely large, but Eden could feel her enemies getting back on their feet to chase after her, and their steps gaining more and more on her tail. She accelerated again, trying to control her breathing.

“Her speed...”

“Yeah, she’s the fastest Dive Hacker I’ve ever seen. ...Eden, next one on your right, Kitty. Jump over the fence.”

Eden nodded, but she had no breath to spare on actual words. The fence Loir had mentioned was about two meters tall, standing between her and a roller coaster... Would she be fine once she got past that thing? As she got closer, Eden accelerated, focusing on the obstacle she had to jump over. It was tall, but she could do it...

“Now!”

She bent her knees, and built up as much strength as she could before jumping. Defying the physical laws of gravity, Eden jumped over that fence, but landed brutally on the other side.

She felt the shock throughout her entire body and winced.

“...You okay, Kitty?”

“Yeah...” she groaned, holding her arm.

“Good job. I’d say you bought yourself three... or two minutes’ break.”

“Awesome,” Eden grimaced.

Once again, she had to ignore the pain and pick herself back up. On all fours, she glanced to the side. As expected, her pursuers were already running toward the fence, but those automated bots didn’t have any superhuman abilities. They were resistant, but as dumb as nails. They literally had no brains to think with, so to speak, and couldn’t begin to process the most simple obstacles. Once the first one reached the fence, it just ran into it and bounced back, falling on its rear. Eden watched the bot get back up again and run into the fence just to fall back down again. She let out a long sigh. It would indeed take a minute or two for them to process the issue, send the information to whichever master system they belonged to, and get a solution...

Eden got back up and looked around, holding her injured arm. Although the roller coaster was actually running, the fence around it was completely closed for some reason.

“What is this?” Eden asked, watching the ride go.

“...Hm, looks like an abandoned project. One of their programmers probably left it to trick the intruders... I see remnants of a code, poorly done, but doesn’t have a ‘Don’t jump over the fence’ sign, so I guess we’re good. They didn’t think a jumpy kitty cat could just get inside, so there’s literally no security.”

“Can you do something with it?” asked Eden.

She walked up to the little cabin, probably where all those buttons and switches were to control the ride... None seemed to actually work, though. There were no lights on, and a thin layer of dust covered it for the effect. She heard Loir sigh.

“You have a genius by your side and you want me to play with toys for three-year-old hackers?”

“I need time,” groaned Eden.

Through the cabin’s little rear window, she could see more and more bots gathering against the fence. They were still bouncing stupidly against it, but the number of them was still worrying. By now, she could count about three dozen at least, plus one of the clowns... Eden walked over to close the door of the cabin.
