A nagging thought in the back of my mind builds, and I glance at the camera up in the corner.

There it is. The little light shines into the room, telling me it’s on.

Only one person could get that damn thing turned back on.

Logan.

I don’t have time to think on this though. Not when I finally have Jessa back in my arms, and I’m not willing to cut my time with her any shorter than I have to. But at that angle, he can see everything.

She’s not his to see.

Shifting her body down toward the edge of the table, I flip her over onto her stomach and step behind her, ready to take up where we left off.

Arching her back, she lifts herself off the table, and I reach into her hair to grab a fistful. I pull her head back, touching my lips to her ear so she can hear how she affects me.

Her body turns rigid. She attempts to move up the table and away from me, and I don’t relent. I need her to understand this in all of its intensity.

I need her to feel what I feel.

I tighten my fingers around her hip. I know I’m going to leave a bruise, but I don’t care. I want to see myself on her as proof thatwestill exist.

Her body shakes at the start of her release, and my growl answers her cry as we reduce ourselves to our base needs. We convulse together before a silence breaks me out of my hedonistic trance.

The room is now cloaked in darkness. The sound of her exhausted breath matches my own. I ease off and turn her to face me, running my hand down the full length of her body, imagining what she looks like by touch.

Out of the corner of my eye, the light on the camera catches my attention again, reminding me we are not alone, and the cameras have night vision.

Lifting her quickly, I move us to the cot, shoving her clothes to the floor. I pull back the sheet and slide her underneath, then slip in with her and cover us.

As we settle, I realize my mistake. Being caught up in the moment is no excuse. “I’m sorry. I didn’t use—anything.”

She pauses for a long moment, and I wonder briefly if she knows what I’m talking about.

“It’s okay. I’ve been told I probably can’t have kids,” she says awkwardly, and my heart sinks.

She used to want kids—before.

Sensing my hesitation, she fills in the silence. “It’s fine. I’ve accepted it.” Then she pauses and shifts. Although I can’t see her, I sense the moment she turns her face away from mine. “I was—in an accident a while ago. The doctor told me there was too much internal damage, and the chances of—that—are slim.”

I open my mouth to tell her I’m sorry, but a loud knock at the door shatters our moment. “Playtime is over. My office in five minutes, Jack.”

Logan’s tone tells me this isn’t going to be an easy conversation. I roll off the bed, pulling my pants up from my thighs.

A pang of guilt flashes through me that I can’t spend more time with her. Our first time together after all of these years consisted of me not even getting my pants all the way off, and I silently vow to make up for it as I step to the light switch and turn it on.

I’m desperate to see her face again as I cross the small room and lean in to kiss her forehead.

A tentative smile graces her lips as I pull away.

I pick her clothes up from the floor and place them gently beside her. “Get dressed. The camera is back on, and it’s getting late. Logan will want to question you in a bit.”

“Who’s Logan?”

I grit my teeth and wince. I’m already letting my guard down around her.

“He’s the person behind Jekyll’s code name. Look, I’ve promised not to interfere in your questioning. I can’t be a part of it.” At my words, she nods in understanding.

I’m too close to her to properly question her, and she knows it.
