“Why did you leave? It’s beautiful here.”

“Circumstances beyond my control. We’re here.”

“Where is here?”

“You’ll see.” He grins and I cannot help but smile back.

“You look like you have a secret.”

“Not a secret. More like excited to have your input based on something you said yesterday.”

There is a flurry of activity as we disembark and Lucan hurries me into a building. I barely see the exterior before we are in a dark corridor. I feel Lucan’s arm come around my waist to guide me. We are soon in a massive room and I look around curiously. There is something familiar about it. Then I see the bars lining the walls and the raised decks with lounges.

“Is this one of your clubs as well?”

“Not quite. But it is the club that I patterned when I openedFriction.”

“It shows. Is this where we’re having lunch?” I look around for any signs of dining and find none.”

“Yes. Ah! Here’s Roger now.”

I look around and find an older gentleman bearing down on us.

“Lucan! It’s good to see you, man. And I see you’ve finally managed to find a beautiful woman to heal your soul.”

“Sheisa beauty. But this is my nanny.”

“A little old to have a nanny, aren’t you? But to each his own.” The older man winks at him and pokes his shoulder.

“My son’s nanny.”

“Son! My, my! Alothas changed on your end. Found yourself a little woman and all, eh?”

“Not quite. It’s a long story. So, this is Summer Madison.”

I sense that Lucan is anxious to change the subject and step forward with my hand extended.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, sir.” I smile widely.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Summer. Thank you for bringing a ray of sunshine into Lucan’s life.”

“You make it sound as though I’m some sort of recluse, Roger.” Lucan pulls me closer to him and smiles.

“You may as well be. You certainly act like it. Summer, I don’t see this man unless it has to do with business.”

Lucan laughs. “Well, my business today is the lunch and tour you promised.”

“Right this way.”

Roger leads us to an elevator which he accesses by punching in a code. It is glass and a bit unnerving. As it ascends, I look out over the main floor. It gives me a bird’s eye view of the real size of the space. We are three stories up when we get off and walk down yet another short corridor.

“Welcome to my nest.” Roger opens the door with a flourish and I step inside. The room is tastefully decorated and there is a table laid out with food.

We eat, then go on the promised tour. When we get back to the car and are heading back to the hotel, Lucan turns to me.

“Well? What do you think of it?”

“What specifically?”
