“Great.” He pretends to whisper to Avery. “Make sure she buys the whole store.”

I roll my eyes slightly. “I heard that.”

“Good. Summer,” he grasps my arms and turns me to face him. “Let me do this for you. You’ve done much more than what a physical salary can repay. Call this a bonus, okay?”

“I guess.”

“Wonderful. Avery will take excellent care of you. See you this evening.”

With that, I am left standing in the middle of the store with Avery.

“Shall we begin, dear? This card is just screaming, ‘Swipe me! Tap me!’ And far be it from me to ignore it.”

I have to laugh. A few hours later, after I have dinner with Ryan, I am in my room putting on the finishing touches to my make-up. There are about three outfits to choose from and I am a bit indecisive. They are all suitable for the occasion. Finally, I decide on the black and gold dress.

It slides over my head and settles on my hips and thighs. A quick flick tightens the straps and the bodice hugs my breasts, leaving my back exposed. I examine my reflection. The dress is like an optical illusion. It appears to be sheer in some places but upon closer examination what seems to be skin is gold fabric.

I slide my feet into the high-heeled black shoes before standing and spritzing on some perfume. Avery had taken me to a hairdresser as well and my usually straight hair now lies in waves around my shoulders. A little black clutch completes my ensemble. I slip through the connecting door into Ryan’s room. He is on the floor with his coloring books while Nicole supervises.

“Hi, sweetie!”

He looks up and smiles. “Summer! You look beautiful!”

“Thank you! Be good for Nicole, okay?”

“Okay.”

I ruffle his hair before leaving. Lucan is waiting in the common area and turns as I approach. He seems to be frozen as he looks at me. And as I look at his attire, I too am frozen.

He is wearing a dark blue turtle neck with a black blazer and slacks. His hair is perfectly combed away from his forehead and I detect the faint beginnings of a goatee. His cologne is strong, yet not overpowering. It is as though you just know you are in the presence ofa man.

I stand still under his scrutiny, watching as his eyes rake over me. Finally, he clears his throat and comes forward with his hand outstretched.

“Shall we?”

I smile and take his hand, allowing him to slip it into the crook of his arm. “We shall.”

It is a different feeling altogether to be treated like a club VIP. Lucan and I are immediately ushered to one of the smaller sky decks set for just two persons. We are greeted with welcome cocktails. We chill for an hour or so while the servers ply us with drinks. I feel a little giddy but far be it from me to turn down free drinks.

“Would you like to dance?”

I look at Lucan strangely. “Dance?”

“Yes. You know, that thing that humans do when they hear music?”

I roll my eyes. “I know what dancing is. I just didn’t think you would want to do it.”

“I don’t dance atmyclub. I’m too busy making sure things are intact. But at anyone else’s? Try and stop me. So, shall we?”

“I’d love to.”

We take to the dance floor for a good hour. I have to admit that for a man his age, he has some moves. His hands on my bare skin feel like fire as he pulls me close. I slide my hands up his arm and onto his shoulder as a slower number starts. I feel my breath hitch slightly as he pulls me even closer. I feel the warmth of his breath on my cheek as he holds me close.

“You’re a pretty good dancer, Lucan.”

“I’m okay. And it helps if I have an excellent partner like you.” He spins me out and pulls me back into his arms. I gasp at the force with which our bodies collide, and I am reminded of that dream I had about us. His eyes are boring into me as our bodies move in time to the music. My heart begins to race as arousal sweeps over me. I am aware of every inch of him. My breathing grows ragged as I allow him to grind into me. I roll my hips in response and he shivers. His hands move across my back and one slips down to cup my butt. My fingers tangle in the hair at his nape as I look up at him. Our eyes meet and hold. As he leans in slightly, the tempo of the music changes and the moment is lost. Reluctantly, we part. He takes my hand and leads me off the dance floor back to our sky deck.

We have a few more drinks before he decides to call it a night. I am torn as we head back to our hotel. I want nothing more than to go to bed with Lucan right now. But I also acknowledge that it is the liquor talking. Rational sense says that Lucan is still my boss and nothing of the sort can happen. But on the other hand, we are a man and a woman with an obvious attraction to each other. Anything can happen.
