His dark hair and light eyes make it look like he’s always up to something. Like he’s a mischievous rogue, sexy and effortlessly seductive. I don’t usually fall for lines like his and I never smile just because I man asks me to, but his fingers tracing spirals on my arm and his intense stare makes me giggle. He takes himself way too seriously.

“There you go,” he smiles, my eyes glued on his face. And before I know it, he has clasped a bracelet onto my wrist. “It made me think of you,” he says, winking.

I look down to see a multi-colored flower bracelet. It’s sweet, like something I would have worn as a teenager and nothing I could have ever expected from anyone here.

“Thank you,” I smile and without another glance at Ethan I take the empty glass from the table and walk away.

Am I so transparent or did Ethan speak to his friend about me? Why would Ethan be talking about me to anyone? I wonder, suddenly feeling the pang of cold grief in my chest. I should have at least greeted him, smiled, something to acknowledge he’s there. But how can I when I’m also determined not to think of him at all?

I walk into the staff locker room to get some lip balm and hear the door close soon after I get in. It’s probably another waitress coming to get changed or something. Nothing new, it happens all the time.

“The very least I expect is a greeting,” Ethan says, moving quickly toward me.

I hear the click of his shoes on the floor before I see him and as I turn to face him he’s standing right behind me, his face inches from mine.

I gasp, a rush of excitement stalling my breath. His chest rising and falling with every deep breath he drew.

“So, you’re all smiles for Ed, but can’t even muster a greeting for me?’ he asks. His lips curl in a half smile that leaves me confused about whether he’s happy or irritated.

“I’m sorry,” I stammer.

Ethan leans into the crook of my neck, his lips moving just above my skin. I can feel his warm breath and it makes me shiver, a shaky moan escaping my lips.

“Didn’t you enjoy our date last night?” he asks, walking his finger up my arm.

My body tenses and my knees wobble. I look over at the door and wonder what would happen if someone suddenly opened the door.

“You’re making a habit of ignoring me,” Ethan whispers, bringing his face up from my neck and leaning in as if to kiss me.

I close my eyes in anticipation and tilt my head to the side, my lips parting slightly.

“Did you like the flowers?” he asks, a shadow away from my lips.

I can taste the mint on his breath.

I try to stop myself but another quivering moan escaped my lips. “I did. They’re beautiful. Thank you,” I stammer and try to pull myself together.

My eyes are still closed; I dare not look at him. I might melt into a puddle at his feet.

“I thought you might,” he whispers.

I squeeze my thighs together, trying to ease the pulsing in my pants. The nearness of this man does things to me that scares me, makes me wonder if I really am fully in control of myself. The things he could make me do…

“You should have called me. Maybe let me know about that second date, but maybe you’re shy,” he laughs, a husky snigger that buzzes through my body and makes me whimper.

“So what do you say about a second date?” he asks, blowing a stream of minty air into my open mouth.

“I’d like that,” I stammer.

His hand moves over my thigh. I can feel the warmth of his palm through my pants and hold my breath, my chest pushed out towards him.

“Then I’ll see you later,” he says, pushing himself off against the lockers and smiling broadly, showing off those faint dimples before walking out like nothing happened.

I sink to the floor and catch my breath.
