My hand comes up to my throat and I clear my throat, embarrassed and wondering why he’s standing there staring at me with such a…focused gaze.

“Jeez, Mr. McKnight! You scared the hell out of me! Is something wrong. Do you need me to get something for you?”

“Yeah. I mean…no.”

Furrowing my brows, I drop my purse to the chair and turn my computer on. “Which is it, sir?”

He looks startled for a minute, his full lips falling open and his blue eyes wide. Then he looks down and hides his expression so well that I wonder if maybe I imagined the whole damn thing.

“Right. I mean that I don’t technically need you to get anything for me but we have to be somewhere. I’ve got a meeting across town with a new client to go over the specifics of what exactly their company needs from us and I want you to come with me.”

“Me?” I ask, stunned. “One of the tech guys usually guys with you to go over the specifications for their needs.”

“Right. Well, we’ve already got that information from them. This meeting is to go over what would need to be in the contract. And since you’d have to work on the contract, I’d like you to be right there to hear it all.”

“The attorney’s do the contracts,” I argue.

He looks like he’s about to explode. “Jesus, Daisy! Just get ready to go. The attorney is going to meet us there.”

“I can meet you there if you need me.”

“You can ride with me. I don’t want you to get lost.”

My eyebrows climb up. “Are you trying to say that I’m a bad driver or something?”

“No! Dammit, Daisy! I just want to make sure that you’re there when I need you! Can you please get ready?”

I huff out an angry breath. “Sure.” I grab my purse and phone and turn to ask, “Do I need my computer or can I take notes on my phone?”

“Your phone will be fine.”

Nodding, I drop it in my purse and then we walk out to the elevator again. I stare around at the eerie quiet.

“Is there a reason that nobody’s up here? It seems like nobody came in to work.”

“No. They’re here.”

“Okay. I mean, there’s usually someone up here asking to see you. There’s nothing and nobody. It’s weird.”

“It’s alright. I informed the staff that I was going to be out of the office.”

I nod my head. “I see. Well, that makes sense.”

“Let’s go, Daisy.” The elevator doors close and the unnatural quiet becomes even worse. The ding ding of the floors should worry me since he’s not speaking and his bright blue eyes are fixed on the numbers going down.

Weird.

The door opens into the parking garage and his car is parked right next to it. My brows lift and he grins. “I knew I had to leave. I asked them to move it when I called upstairs.”

Nodding my head, I wait for him to open the car door for me. His driver steps out and Dexter shakes his head. “I’ve got her, Max. Thank you. You’ve got the directions for where we’re going?”

“Yes, sir.” He nods and my eyes widen when it seems like there’s some kind of speechless communication going on between them.

I turn back to Dexter quickly but his eyes are carefully blank. “Is there something going on here, Mr. McKnight?”

He growls under his breath and I feel my clit pound in my panties. Damn, he sounds like a sexy wolf.

“I told you…”
