“Wow, I love the Rocking Roller Coaster, too! It’s awesome!” the guy gushed, eavesdropping on our conversation yet again.

I shot him a warning look and found myself placing my hand around Remi’s elbow and moving her to swap places with me so that she’d be the first one on. Not that I wanted to sit next to this dude during the ride, but I’d just spent the last thirty minutes watching him scope her out and try to make small talk.

“Yes, I love it. It’s my favorite ride in the entire park.” Remi offered him a small smile as she answered politely.

“Your turn to be on the outside, Remi,” I told her to explain why I was putting myself between her and the over-eager male, while meeting his eyes.

The dimples in her cheeks appeared adorably because she couldn’t fight the smile of pleasure my actions caused. In turn, I was thrilled.

“Since when?” she asked wryly, aware that I was running interference. It was all I could do not to laugh out loud.

The nameless kid’s eyebrows shot up as if to question my claim on her. I met his eyes and grinned.

“Since now,” I replied, letting my hand linger on her upper arm. “It’s more fun on the outside seat.”

“Are you going to make this offer the next time we ride the Eagle?” she admonished.

“Okay, we’ll go ride it again after this and you can have the outside seat.” After I said it, I realized I’d just told the guy what our plan would be, and I wondered if he would follow us across the park once we disembarked from this ride.

“I’ll believe it when I see it!” Remi smiled.

She was so beautiful, even after a day of running around the park and of getting drenched on Daredevil Falls that I could hardly blame him for gawking at her.

The line advanced and it was only five minutes until we were at the front of our line and waiting for the cars to empty so we could get on board.

I glanced at the guy when Remi started to hop aboard in front of me. True, I wasn’t holding Remi’s hand or anything but what kind of dick head flirts with a girl who is with another guy? “Tough break,” I murmured.

“She’s super-hot,” was all he said in return. “Can’t blame a guy for trying.”

My eyebrows shot up and my jaw shot out. “In this case, I think I can,” I answered just loud enough for him to hear. If I was honest, he was right. Any red-blooded straight male would take notice of Remi. She was stunning from her green eyes, her perfect figure and beautiful features and flowing waves of chestnut hair. “But I get it.”

I offered a good-natured smile as I reigned in my ire. If I was lucky enough to ever have a relationship with her, other men admiring her would be something I’d have to get used to. That’s if I could get her to dump her nerd boyfriend.

I was thinking about it as I sat down next to Remi and we both got secured into the ride until it took off like a rocket to the top of the first drop and Remi’s excited laughter filled my ears. Happiness filled me that had little to do with the rollercoaster, but I had to admit it was pretty damn fun.

“Admit it!” Remi pressured, as we walked down the ramp that led away from the coaster with the rest of the riders. “It is just as fun as the Wild Eagle.”

“You’ll have to torture me.” I grinned at her.

Her head cocked in exasperation. “Come on, Dylan. You had fun.”

“I did. This has been a great day.”

Remi’s mouth fell open in mock shock. “What? Has been? It’s only 4:30. There’s still a lot of the day left. Are you too pooped out, grandpa?” She used her fist to softly slug me in the shoulder.

I smiled. “No, I just thought we’d have a nice quiet evening. We could go out or we could cook in the cabin. There is something I’d like to talk to you about.”

Remi’s expression sobered. “What is it? That sounds ominous.”

My smile widened. “Hardly.” Truthfully, though, I was worried about her reaction. I was taking a chance on ruining our last night together and making the drive back to Clemson miserable, but something in my gut made me think this would be my last chance.

“Then just tell me now.”

“I don’t want to. You’ll have to wait. You’re still the most impatient person I know.” I shook my head, still grinning.

“No, I’m not,” she answered indignantly, but was clearly amused.

“Then prove it. Wait.”
