“Good to know I can’t be replaced by an inanimate object.” He increases his rhythm once more.

“You could never be replaced, Creed. By an inanimate objectorsomething real.” The words fall from my mouth before I can stop them. “No one can ever replace you.”

He frames my face in his hands, this moment incredibly intimate. Not because he’s moving inside me. But because I’m finally allowing myself to share my feelings with him, regardless of what tomorrow holds.

“You can’t be replaced, either,” he tells me. “You’ll never be replaced.”

His mouth recaptures mine, our tongues tangling in a dance they’ve done a thousand times over.

Even still, it feels new. Exciting. Exhilarating.

“My nipples,” I tell him when he pulls back.

“What’s that?”

“I was pinching my nipples. Hard. Pretending it was your teeth.”

Grinning slyly, he brings his lips to one of my breasts, swirling his tongue around it before nibbling on the pert bud. He’s gentle at first, but as he picks up his pace, he clamps down harder.

The increasing pain pushes me higher and higher, blinding me to everything except this intense sensation until I cry out, my orgasm taking me by surprise.

“Fuck, Esme,” he groans, hooking one of my legs over his shoulder. “Please tell me you’re still on birth control.”

“I am.”

“Thank fuck.” He increases his motions, each thrust deeper and more desperate until he stills, body jerking through his release before he collapses on top of me.

“We definitely shouldn’t do that,” I remark after several long moments, my heart still beating an erratic rhythm.

“Definitely not.” He laughs, carefully extracting himself from me and standing. “Give me a sec.”

Leaving a kiss on my forehead, he briefly disappears into the bathroom before returning with a washcloth. I reach for it, but he shakes his head.

“Let me take care of you,” he begs, just like our first time together.

I give him a small nod, and he brings the cloth between my legs, gaze steady on mine as he cleans up the evidence of what we did. Once he’s finished, he stands and heads back into the bathroom. When he re-emerges, there’s a hesitation about him, as if he’s unsure where to go from here.

“Do you want to know one more thing you absolutely shouldn’t do?” I jump up from the bed and close the distance. “You absolutely shouldn’t stay the night.” I drape my arms over his shoulders. “Shouldn’t fall asleep with me wrapped in your embrace.” Lifting myself onto my toes, I skim my mouth against his. “Shouldn’t wake up next to me so we can do it all over again.” I pinch my lips together. “Don’t you think?”

All his uncertainty disappears, and he loops an arm around my waist, yanking me into him.

“I couldn’t agree more… Princess.”

I don’t know where we’ll go from here, especially since Creed has even more to lose than he did before.

But as he covers my mouth with his and lowers me back onto the bed, I don’t care about any of that.

Years ago, we made a promise that, whenever we were together, we wouldn’t think about the future. That we’d only focus on the present.

So that’s what I do.

I stay in the present. In this moment with Creed.

Right now, it’s the only thing that matters.
