“So you could do worse.”
“Brat,” he said, but his lips were twitching. “Strangely, I don’t want to marry a cat. However, that’s what’s going to happen if I’m worrying about you.”
This was such a weird argument.
And why was she bothering to argue when she wanted him here?
“You’re tired and rundown. You’ve run on adrenaline for a long time. Just let me help you. And you’ll help me . . . by making sure I don’t marry a cat.”
“Well, I wouldn’t want that.”
“Whew.” He wiped imaginary sweat off his brow.
“But where will you sleep?” She was sleeping in Ethan’s room. Buster’s room was a pigsty and it didn’t feel right to have him sleep in Aidan and Livvy’s room. Wyatt was sleeping in with Buster at the moment.
“I’ll stay on the couch.”
That didn’t feel right.
“No, you stay in Ethan’s room. I’ll sleep on the couch.”
He let out a bark of laughter.
What was so funny?
He quickly sobered. “Oh, you were serious? No, baby. That’s definitely not happening. I’ll sleep on the couch. You’re sleeping in an actual bed.” He checked his watch. “And we need to start getting you ready. It’s almost your bedtime.”
“I don’t have a bedtime.” She usually stayed up late reading. It wasn’t like she enjoyed sleeping.
“You do now.”
“Wait . . . you’re giving me a bedtime?”
“Yep. That’s what a guardian does.”
“I’m still not sure I said yes to this whole guardian thing. I think I only agreed to save you from cat marriage.”
“So you don’t want me to help you? To take on some of the decision making?”
Crap.
He was silent, just waiting for her reply. She couldn’t believe she was going to do this.
“What is my bedtime?” she asked, both nervous and excited.
She just hoped like hell that she wasn’t going to get hurt.

Hack had to grin as Greer muttered to herself about the bedtime he’d given her.
He’d heard the words ridiculous, stubborn, and goat.
But he decided he would ignore them. For now.
He’d gotten what he’d wanted.
The microwave dinged. He’d heated up some of the food she’d bought.
