A knock on the door startled her.

“Baby girl? Are you all right? You didn’t fall in the toilet, did you?”

She felt safe rolling her eyes at him in here.

“Are you rolling your eyes at me?”

She froze. Opening the bathroom door, she gaped up at him. “How did you know?”

“I didn’t. But you just confirmed it for me. Tut-tut. That’s going to get you some corner time.”

“But I didn’t!”

“Are you going to add lying to your punishment? Because that will mean you’ll be getting ten over my knee. And it won’t be easy like the couple of swats I gave you before.”

Gulp.

She really didn’t want to spend time in the corner though.

“I don’t think it’s fair to be punished when you didn’t see what I did.”

“Oh, baby girl. That’s not the way it works.” He took her good hand in his and led her back to the living room. “Did you use the potty?”

She groaned. Lord help her. Surely it wasn’t too much to ask for the floor to suddenly swallow her up?

“Yes.”

“Good girl.” He took her over to a free corner in the living room. “Five minutes. Nose against the wall. If you’re uncomfortable or upset, you can say your safeword. Otherwise you’re expected to stay silent.”

Oh dear Lord.

This sucked monkey balls.

She stood there, trying not to fidget. It wasn’t easy. She didn’t really like being in her own head. Too much time to think wasn’t always a good thing for her.

“Baby?” he called out.

“Yes?”

“Come here, please.” His voice was ultra-gentle, and for some silly reason she felt like crying.

Greer moved over to where he sat on the sofa. He drew her between his open legs. “Were you getting upset?”

“I . . .” She went to deny it. Then she realized she had been getting herself worked up. “I guess so.”

“You didn’t realize?”

“Not exactly.”

He nodded. “I don’t think corner time is going to be one of your punishments.”

Relief flooded through her. Okay, it seemed that she really hadn’t liked being in the corner.

“I didn’t even really notice,” she said. “But now that you say I won’t have to do it again, I feel so relieved.”

“We need to work on helping you recognize your feelings. You push them down.”

She nodded. “I guess so.”
