Was she upset or relieved?

Fuck. She didn’t know anymore.

His arms were bands around her. She liked the pressure. It kept her grounded, kept her from spiralling into the past. As he held her, her breathing eased and disappointment filled her.

“You’re brave and beautiful. So fucking sexy.”

“So are you,” she said breathlessly.

He chuckled. “How about we go get Wally, then snuggle down in your nest and watch some TV? You think Wally likes popcorn?”

“Hmm, I think he does. Although, he’s more of a donut kind of worm.”

“Ahh, good to know.” He stood with her in his arms. Her bra was still hanging loose and uncomfortable. But since when were those things ever comfortable? Done up or undone?

He set her on his hip and walked with her into the spare bedroom. Setting her down, she crawled into the middle of the nest.

“I’ll get Wally and the snacks. You choose the movie. And baby girl?”

“Yes?”

“Thank you. Thank you for choosing me.”

Damn. He always knew just what to say.

“Ihave something for you to wear today.”

Greer looked up as Hack walked into the bedroom. She was already dressed in comfy pants and a long sweater with a picture of a ladybug on the front. He’d ordered it online for her the other day and she loved it so much she’d barely taken it off.

If he was going to try and get it off her . . . well, he’d have to wrestle her for it.

“I’m not taking the sweater off! I don’t care if it’s got coffee stains on it and yesterday’s lunch. It’s mine, and I will die to protect it.”

He stilled and stared at her for a moment. “Someone has big feelings this morning. Are you all right, baby?”

Of course she was. She opened her mouth to tell him that.

“Greer, think about that.”

Shoot. She took a moment. Was she all right? Because getting possessive over a sweater wasn’t exactly rational behavior.

She sat on the side of the bed. Three days had passed since the stalker had been found dead. Why didn’t she feel better? All that emotional turmoil and worry should be gone.

But it still felt like she was surrounded by unknowns and fears. She wished she was feeling more normal. She’d thought that she might have gotten over her fear of sex. She’d become more at ease with touching Hack. In fact, sometimes she worried she was getting addicted to warming his cock. It was just so soothing. And it helped her get used to his body.

And yet she struggled so much in other ways.

“Greer?” He came over and crouched in front of her, placing his hands on her legs. “Do you need to use your emotional safeword?”

Did she?

No. Now that she recognized and acknowledged her emotions, she felt better. But she still thought that she had some work to do.

“I just feel like . . . like I’m not getting any better. I thought that I would be doing better. Feeling better. But I still don’t want to leave the house on my own.”

“Hey. Give yourself a break, Little girl. You’ve had a lot thrown at you and should be proud of how you’re handling everything.”
