He smiled. “Flightless temptress. For now, yes, you can look up five of your people.”

She smiled brightly. “Thanks. Flightless for now.”

He grinned. “Correct. Flightless for now. I have already begun designs. Did you want to see?”

“Your conversation with Rholik is over?”

Rholik snorted. “He stopped making sense the moment he heard your footsteps in the hall. He doesn’t normally leave his office open. I will be pleased to meet you in a few hours.”

She asked Nebel, “How long was I... uh... out?”

“Three days. We are still in the shuttle but inside the warship. Nice and snug. That is familiar, and somewhere I wish to be again.” He chuckled.

She caught his reference to being inside her and sat there blinking.

“See you soon, Overseer, Lady Lily.” Rholik was laughing.

The screen went dark, and she looked back at Nebel. She sighed and pressed her head to his chest.

“Still tired, precious?”

“Yeah. Um, I don’t know why.”

“Well, you remembered the bite?”

Her body got hot. “Yes.”

“And when I spilled in you?”

“Uh, yes.”

“That has begun to change you to match me. Your skin is thicker; your channel is deeper.”

Lily pinched the skin on her arm, and it was harder to get her normally thin skin to pleat. “Whoa.”

He chuckled and drew his fingertips across her arm. “But still sensitive. Yes?”

She nodded. “Yes.”

“Good. I appreciate your sensitivity.” His trailing hand caressed her neck and turned her to face him.

She looked at him, and he smiled, leaning in for a kiss. It started slow. His lips truly plucked at hers, and she blushed, remembering that he had used that dexterity on her clit. The blunt piercing had responded to him frequently.

She felt the hand between her thighs while his mouth warmed her with kisses that were never quite what she thought. She thought they were sweet and gentle, but she felt the purpose in them when his fingers glided through her slick and into her. She acted on reflex and grabbed his wrist with one hand and her breast with the other. She moaned into his mouth.

He chuckled and leaned back. “I had heard you were responsive, but now I understand the rush to find a match with your kind.”

She whispered, “I think that has more to do with fast cycling.”

“Ah, yes, I read about that.” He chuckled. “Heboren made sure I was aware of it as I skipped the Hmrain gathering. My trade agreements are all in place.”

She blinked. “Oh. So, why did you even attack Heboren?”

He seemed content to converse with his fingers inside her.

“Because he was bragging at the meeting that he had a Terran match.”

“Wait. If you weren’t there, how do you know?”
