She sighed and cuddled against him. “I slept alone.”

“Hmrain rarely sleep.” He chuckled. “You will have to try harder to tire me out.”

“Ah. Well, I am going to have to build up some stamina.” She smirked. “You are going to have to put some effort in.”

He grinned then kissed her, setting her on his desk. She looked around, and the staff were still going about their tasks at their stations. “What is this place?”

He slid his hands up past her knees, pushing her dress out of the way as he went. “This is the organizational centre for this world, and the staff here primarily work on obtaining materials for development. The Hebor ask for what they want and detail how it would look and benefit society, and then we contact Nebel’s people to get the mechanisms built and Reynol’s folk for raw materials.”

Nova looked left and right. There were a few glances, but no one was staring. She looked at Heboren. “Is this normal?”

His hands continued to ease her skirt upward. “It is going to be. Unravel your hair.”

She had her hands braced on the desk and leaned on her left while her right pulled off the makeshift tie at the base of the braid, and then she worked the weave loose. She flipped the hair forward, and he pulled her off the desk so she thudded against his hips. He buried his face in her hair and inhaled.

There was a happy rumble that came from his chest. Nova could see heads looking at them in surprise. She cupped his jaw, turned his head, and kissed him. His hand was between her thighs, and as the kiss continued, he slid his fingers in a slow figure eight. She inhaled with a gasp as three fingers thrust into her, and the thumb flicked her clit. She gasped, whimpered, and rode his hand slowly until her body shook, clenched, and twitched. He shivered and chuckled softly, lifting his mouth from hers and smiling. “That was how I would like to start the day from now on.”

She hid her face against his neck. He had caught most of her moans and shrieks, but a few had escaped. The workers in the room were smirking.

Heboren stroked her back. “They will get used to it, and you will get used to it.”

“It’s embarrassing.”

“It is in your contract. You are merely upholding terms.” His hand gripped her ass and then patted it. “It is an excellent start.”

She felt her face blaze against his neck. He sent a spill of soothing thoughts through her mind, and she felt a chill go down her spine. Everyone in the room had fucking heard her. “I think I am going to lock myself in my room.”

“Nova, you have no reason to be embarrassed.”

“Even if I don’t make noise, they can hear me.”

He slid a hand into her hair and tugged her head back. “Then, you had better learn to defend yourself. I can help, and we can practice once your adaptation is complete. You still have a few days before your body is finished with its changes. We can begin preparing for you to learn how to guard your mind. Until that happens, would you like me to do it?”

She blinked back tears. “Please.”

He hugged her and pressed a kiss to her temple. She felt a surge in her thoughts, but it wasaroundher thoughts. Her mind felt warm and safe in that instance, but she could still feel and react.

She slumped against him and trembled. “Thanks for that.”

“You were truly worried about it?”

“Yeah. There is an entire population here that has an advantage over me,” she mumbled. “Plus, with what we are up to, I don’t want to share it with everybody around. When I am comfortable, I will let you know.”

He chuckled. “I have faith in you.”

She blinked, and Hekora arrived with her tray.

Hekora stood near the desk. “Where shall I put her meal, Overseer?”

“On the desk, Hekora.”

“Yes, sir.” The tray slid across the wood. “She is burning a lot of calories. How often will she need to eat?”

“At least twice a day plus snacks.” He chuckled. “It will vary with her exertion levels.”

Nova lifted her head and sighed. She was going to state that she wasn’t hungry, but her stomach growled. She turned and saw the office workers smiling at her as she reached for the large breakfast tray.

Grey flatbread, a rainbow of berries, and sliced meats made up the meal. There was some hot beverage, one cold, and one lukewarm water. Nova smiled. “Thank you.”
