“I know you are irritated, but you are treasures that we are obsessed with protecting.”

“So, the contract is over when I have a baby?” She kept her head down.

Every part of him tensed. Heboren inhaled and muttered, “Fuck.”

She smiled slightly against his chest. “How much does a personal shuttle cost?”

He growled and pulled her up to face him. “You want to leave me?”

Nova cocked her head. “No. But I want to see some of the universe. I have left the husk of my world and flown to a new one, and I know there is more out there. More I want to see, want to do, and I want to do it before my lifespan runs its course.”

“Your lifespan is now double your norm, and with maintenance, there is no firm timeline for your expiration.”

“Maintenance?”

He stroked her cheek. “The same kind of maintenance that you experienced so you could take me all the way.”

“Wow. So, that wasn’t in the contract.” She frowned.

He grinned and showed his teeth. “It was covered in what I could offer you. So, would you want to leave our little one?”

“I don’t want to leave; I want to travel.”

Heboren nodded. “We can do that. You have three hundred and thirty days until the child is with us. Where would you like to go?”

“I would like to see Lily again. I am worried about all those holes he put in her.”

He chuckled. “The artists and creators on Bellen are often seen with that kind of alteration. It will help her fit into the population that Nebel has in his care.”

Nova smiled. “I guess I could get some spots or style my hair a bit more to fit in.”

“You look like an evolved nasat. They are natural to this world, so you will look familiar to all. No alterations necessary.” He stroked her hair.

“So, I need you to get through the pregnancy?”

“Yes. Not all Hmrain are the same, but I am insisting that you need me.” He smiled. “I will travel with you, and you can see the stars you are so interested in.”

She stroked his neck. “For two years, the stars in the sky disappeared. Now I have been hauled away from the stars that were so familiar, and I just want to get some orientation. I think I want to find my place again, and I want to go fast. That’s important.”

Understanding lit his eyes. “Ah. That I can help you with. I have already ordered you some custom-designed personal transports so that you can have the freedom of this world.”

“I can make do with some non-custom ones in the meantime so that I can explore.”

“Your introduction to the other continents will be done at my side.”

“Can it happen soon?”

He slid a hand down her back, over her butt, and casually gripped her thigh with his fingers pressing between them. “I will show you a map, and we will begin to go to one city or outpost per day. Twice in an eight-day period. We can stop it when you request.”

Nova smiled. “Seriously?”

“Yes. If you wish to learn my world, I will show it to you.”

“If I am going to be here for decades or centuries, I should know where I am going.”

He nodded slowly. “You should. And if it comes to full term, you can show our child around.”

“If?”
