The weight of his tool slapped against my cheek, warning me of the destruction it had come to do. Without a doubt, its intentions to renovate my walls and paint them white with his seeds was understood and approved. He had full creative control.

“Ahhhhhhhh. Sssss.”

I grabbed the edge of the counter until my knuckles whitened. He entered me with caution. Our bodies synced. As he pushed into me, I pushed into him, sliding up and down his manhood with ease.

For forever. The words surfaced and stuck with me. This was mine. He was mine. From this day on and for forever. I was far from psychic but I could see our future together. It was set in stone.

I pressed rewind, again, stopping the video when the shadow I’d never recognized appeared on the screen. It was faint, but it was apparent that someone had barely missed the camera facing the left wing of my home. Based on the direction it appeared and disappeared, they were on their way inside. Pausing it at the exact moment allowed me to check the time displayed on the screen.

12:02. Just as Milo’s birthday rolled in, someone had entered my home to murder my wife. The new piece of information left me with a heaviness that compared to nothing I’d felt in the last two years I’d been trying to solve this thing.

Before now, there wasn’t a single trace or piece of evidence. Now, two years later, I had something. It was only a time stamp and a shadow, but it was a start. The breakthrough rattled me internally and externally, forcing my back against the chair as I replayed the entire night in my head.

Figures displayed on the home security system that covered nearly every inch of my land captured my attention. Immediately, my mind was eased. Lawe and Milo walked side by side, making their way up to my porch. The rest that Aeir desperately needed led me out of the office and to the door before they had a chance to ring the bell and wake her. I opened it to find sly smiles on both of their faces.

“You should’ve called.”

“My phone broken,” Lawe replied with a shrug, pushing past me and into the house.

“A fucking liar.”

“Mine, too,” Milo added.

I wasn’t in the mood to deal with either of their shit, but it seemed as though I didn’t have much of a choice. By the time I’d closed the door behind me, Lawe was already in the kitchen and Milo was right behind him.

“You look like shit,” I told Milo.

“That makes two of us, then, huh?”

“This nigga got a hangover. I’m starting to believe he can’t hang no more. Getting old as fuck.”

“Did you forget you have me by a few years?” Milo asked.

“Can’t tell. I’m in the best shape of my life. You, on the other hand, I don’t know.”

“Did you come here just to argue? You could’ve done that shit elsewhere.”

“Nah. I came here ’cause I miss you. You don’t miss me?” Lawe tilted his head, spreading his arms wide as if he expected me to walk right into them.

“I don’t feel like your shit, Lawe. Yours either, Milo.”

“Good, because I only rode with this nigga because he refused to take me home. I’m going to lay my ass down on the couch. Wake me up when you’re ready to roll.”

“He’s ready now.”

“No I’m not!” Lawe yelled.

“Yes… yes you are. And keep your voice down,” I warned.

“Since when are you sensitive to noise?” he huffed.

Ignoring him, I wandered into the kitchen. Thirst was upon me. The small breakthrough in the case left me parched. Lawe wasn’t far behind, whistling an unfamiliar tune. As I filled my glass with filtered water, the sound of tops rattling summoned my attention. I observed him and those filthy hands of his opening all three pots on the stove before looking around in confusion.

“Where the rest of it?”

“Rest of what?”
