“Where’s the meat? I’m about to fix me a plate.”

“You’re not fixing a plate, Lawe,” I stated calmly. “I’m vegetarian. You won’t find meat in this home.”

“You still on that?” he sulked. “Where the plates?”

“Lawe, the food is not for you. You and your dirty paws…move.”

“You so uptigh—”

A big, mouth-splitting yawn coming from Aeir’s mouth stopped us both. Our eyes shifted, focusing on the addition to the space.

“Oh God.” She chuckled, covering her mouth. “Sorry.”

“There’s no need to apologize.”

Lawe’s orbs grew bigger with each passing second. Before they managed to pop out of his head, I introduced the two.

“Lawe, Aeir. Aeir, Lawe.”

“He feels familiar.”

“Because he is,” I attested.

“Somebody want to explain what the fuck is happening here?”

“I’m Aeir,” she said, extending her arm and widening her fingers for Lawe to shake.

When he reached out to return the gesture, she pulled him in for a hug instead, holding on and not letting go. As her eyes closed and a smile curved the corners of her lips, I understood exactly what was happening. She wasremembering. After a while, she finally pulled back and set him free.

“Yo, who the fuck is this, and why the fuck is she hugging me as if she know me like that? Excuse me, ma’am, whoever you are, I shoot motherfuckers. Did he tell you that? Don’t be all up on me like—”

“Lawe.” I called out to him, stopping him before he truly got started. I knew him well enough to know where it was going and I couldn’t have that.

Sniggering, Aeir lowered her head while nodding. “This is new for us, too.”

“I don’t know what the fuck type of shit you got going on here, but this shit—”

“Lawe!”

“What, nigga? Have you seen this fucking woman?”

“I have.”

“She looks—”

“I know. Fucked me up, too.”

“Maaaaaan,” he dragged, shaking his head and pacing back and forward.

I tried finding the words to correctly convey what was happening, why it was happening, and when it began, but nothing came out.

“Nigga, somebody need to start talking.”

“You won’t believe me if I told you.”

“Try me.”

“I can explain,” Aeir offered.
