It’s not a good solution and definitely not a long-term one, but when I hear Mom’s knock at the door—staccato evidence of her nerves—I know it’s the right or the only choice, at least for now.

“Zoey, are you hungry? I’m going to order some Chinese takeout.”

“Sure,” I reply. “That would be great. I’ll be down in a minute.”

I have to go. Mom’s ordering takeout. I don’t know how I’m going to look her in the eye after all this.

We won’t have to sneak around forever. I promise, but for now, I have to see you. Let’s arrange a study session. We can go over your chapters… in person.

CHAPTER14

Jaxson

As I await Zoey’s response to my offer of meeting in person to assess the chapters she sent me, I clean myself up in the en suite. My manhood is still sensitive despite the wave of lust that erupted from me, shooting up almost angrily, as if pissed at not exploding in her hole instead.

When?she finally responds.

Tomorrow evening. We can meet at my place.

Do you mind if we met somewhere else? Somewhere public? I don’t trust myself to be alone with you.

I return to my bedroom with a smirk.

Don’t worry. I won’t complain if you get distracted.

Yeah, but that’s the thing. I will get distracted, and then I’ll lead you on again. Look at that picture, Jax. You’re huge. I’ve never been with anybody. I’m worried that, when the time comes, I won’t be able to give you what you want. Nerves will make it, so we can’t do it. Do you get what I’m saying?

I do, and it has my cock getting hard again. She’s saying her hole will be too tight and inexperienced as if that will diffuse my need, but it only inflames it.

We can meet somewhere outside the city. I’ll pick you up. A date and a study session combined. How does that sound?

That sounds great. Thanks for being so understanding.

You don’t have to thank me.

My phone rings, and Peter’s name appears. As I answer, I try to convince myself I’ve got no reason to feel ashamed or hate myself for what I’ve done and still want to do.

“Jax,” Peter says, his tone difficult to read.

“Hey, Peter.”

“Got more info on Mallory’s ex. It turns out he lives in a halfway house a few miles from the address we had. I’m ready to pay the bastard a visit whenever you are.”

“I’m good to go now,” I tell him. The sooner we solve that complication, the sooner we can move on to more important matters, like figuring out how I can spend the rest of my life with Zoey.

“Do you want to take your own car?” I ask.

He lives around the corner from me, so we often ride together instead of taking separate vehicles. It gives us time to talk about the old days, his business, my work, andLuke. I expect him to say no, but after a sigh, he mutters, “Sure, Jax. I’ll see you soon.”

Hanging up, I quickly text Zoey.

I’m meeting Peter. He’s got info on Axel.

What are you going to do?she asks.

About Peter or Axel?

Both.
