She loved him.

And wasn’t that another dilemma?

Chapter 19

Devon made a decision.

He would shadow jump. Alone. He had yet to do it without Persephone present at this point and had no idea how the shadows would take to him, or if they would even heed his call.

It was the middle of the night in the mortal realm, or at least he believed it to be. So, he thought his best option would be to jump to Cerberus Financial.

It was after hours, so no one should be there to witness his humiliation should he turn up in a less than refined manner in a less than desired place.

Closing his eyes, Devon attempted to pull the shadows to him as he did with Persephone. After several attempts, the shadows hardly even stirred.

Taking a deep breath, he closed his eyes again and thought of where he needed to be, visualizing the office he had spent many boring afternoons. The mahogany desk, the floor to ceiling windows… Persephone.

Persephone, standing looking out those windows, her long black hair falling down her back like silk. Her lithe form silhouetted against the city lights. The feel and taste of her power, its strength cocooning him.

“Devon?”

He heard her voice. Persephone. He was in his room, and he could hear her. Taking a deep breath, he allowed himself to settle into the visual, take her in.

Taking a step back to sit on the bed, he slammed his foot into something hard.

“Fuck,” he grumbled, opening his eyes, and finding himself not in his room but Persephone’s. The woman that had been the whole of his thoughts moments ago stood before him, covered in a lace nightgown.

Green light lit up the room. His eyes glowing.

Looking up at her eyes, he could feel raw power ripple through him. His thoughts starting to haze as he took her in.

Persephone. His Persephone.

Before he was aware of his thoughts, or actions, he was in front of her. His hands moved to her jaw and pulled her face to his, stopping inches from putting his lips to her own.

“How did I forget how beautiful you are?” he whispered, only catching her eyes widen before

his lips took hers.

He kissed her like a man possessed and, after a momentary pause, she finally came out of her shock to return the kiss. Her hands moved around his neck, pulling him against her. Their bodies aligned perfectly as their tongues danced and teeth clashed.

Her hands fisted his shirt while he pushed the kiss deeper, losing himself completely in her.

The sudden explosion of glass halted their kiss, both of them jumping back from each other. The room was pure green light and broken glass from the window. He caught sight of Persephone staring at him, her hand to her mouth, her eyes wide in shock.

He was hit with a sudden wave of dizziness before everything went white.

“I’m impressed.” Thanatos walked around the bed, tossing an apple up in the air, and catching it before taking a bite. “I’ve never kissed someone unconscious before.”

“Thanatos, not the time,” Hecate grumbled as she checked over Devon.

Persephone paced in the corner of the room, out of the way of them both, biting her fingernails in worry.

She did not know what had happened, but she very much doubted that it was from kissing her.

Had his power finally been too much? Did the God take over and push Devon out? Would it even still be Devon when he woke up?
