Thanatos simply ignored her as he sat on the bed beside Devon while Hecate worked her magic on Devon.

Thanatos took another bite out of his apple, looking at Persephone.

“Dressed for the occasion or was this a surprise dalliance?” he asked, adjusting his plaid pajama pants, and dripping a bit of apple juice on his cartoon reaper shirt. One stating something about a next intended victim with yet another middle finger.

“Who says dalliance anymore? Also, please shut up, Thanatos,” Hecate stated firmly, her eyes.

closed and her hands moving over Devon’s head.

“I was getting ready for bed, and he just appeared,” Persephone whispered. This could not be

good for her heart, immortal or not.

“Shadow jump?” Thanatos asked around his mouth full of apple. Hecate shot him a disapproving look.

“Animal,” she murmured and continued working.

“No, not shadows. Wind and leaves.” She thought back to that moment, so absorbed by the shock of him showing up, she hardly noticed any details. Now, she realized how much she missed.

“Wind and leaves?” Thanatos barked out, almost choking on his apple. Even Hecate turned to face her with a shocked look on her face.

“Yes. Nature. His power is in nature.”

“Well, the Underworld sounds like the perfect place to put a Nature God, don’t ya think, Hellcat?” Thanatos turned to look at Hecate only to receive an eye roll at his pet name for her.

“Even with his inferior intellect, I do have to agree with Thanatos. That seems very odd that a God of Nature would be here.” Hecate looked down at Devon.

“Yet here he is, bound to death when all he represents is life,” Persephone whispered, her

voice holding a deep sadness.

Before she could speak further, she was wrapped in Thanatos’ arms.

“Don’t fret. Perhaps he will bring life to the Underworld. Change is not always bad, just scary. The good thing is you’ve got me and Hellcat to help you, just as we have done and always will,” he finished, pressing a kiss to Persephone’s forehead as he held her tightly in his arms.

Persephone felt a knot loosen in her chest at Thanatos’ words. They had always been there for her, just as she was for them. They may not be of her blood, but they stood by her just as her sisters did.

“Thank you,” she whispered so faintly she wasn’t sure they could hear her.

Thanatos replied with a tight squeeze and put his chin on her head. He gave her the comfort she desperately needed.

Devon came to consciousness with a panic he hadn’t felt since his days working for the government. Unaware of his surroundings for a moment, he tensed up and opened his eyes to assess his environment before he recognized his bedspread.

“Oh good, you lived.” He heard a familiar male voice from the corner of his room.

Thanatos.

Why was Thanatos sitting in his room?

“What happened? Why are you here?” Devon croaked, his throat dry.

“I am here because Persephone had an issue at Cerberus Financial and was not able to continue watching what easily could’ve been your corpse. I’m also here, of my own volition I assure you, to make sure if you do stop breathing, I rid the castle of your body, try to find a human that looks like you, and hope Persephone doesn’t notice. Persephone didn’t ask me to do that for her, but I felt like it was a thing a good friend would do in this situation.”

“Ignoring that statement, let’s circle back to why I would need to be watched while I sleep?” “Yes, about that.” Thanatos slapped his palms down on his thighs before pushing to stand up.

“You created a portal and showed up in Persephone’s room, went all God on her, kissed her, destroyed the window, and passed out. I’m assuming this was your first time being intimate with a woman, and it was too much for you. It is okay. If you have questions, I am here.”
