“Hello Devon, how do you know our Persephone?”

Our Persephone?

He was definitely going to kill this man if he said anything like that again. Devon tightened his hand to the point that Tristan blanched in pain.

“Fate threw us together. I can’t say she has said anything about you to me, Mr. Wade.” He let the words carry over to Tristan who looked angered by that before an ugly scowl took over his face. “Guess she is not quite your anything anymore, huh?”

“One would assume,” Tristan responded as Devon finally released his hand.

He was only slightly gratified to see Tristan shake it out a bit before placing it back in his lap.

Thankfully, they were quiet enough not to be heard, since Tristan was not quite the gentlemen

he appeared to be. Devon was going to end this night covered in the man’s blood.

Tristan edged closer to whisper over the sound of the crowd. “I understand you staking your claim, and I get it, she is an interesting creature. Though, I’ve never seen her continue to hold a plaything for longer than a few weeks. So just remember. Once your time is up, I’ll be waiting.” Tristan grinned wickedly before straightening back up in his seat.

Another small rumble, like thunder, from the open door that led out to the gardens caused several people to gasp and move back inside.

Devon was only thinking of how much blood splatter might get on his clothes once he stabbed Tristan to notice what was happening outside.

“Watch yourself, Tristan,” Amphitrite growled. “You speak of my sister.”

He was about to choke the man to death with his own necktie, his hands moving of their own volition from his lap when Persephone returned to her seat, pulling her chair in.

Her demeanor was irritated and aggressive as she put her napkin back in her lap. Everyone went still. The tension thick as bulletproof glass.

“Tristan, please remember our last tryst ended with me expressing my interest had waned. Please do not misinterpret the fact that it was a disappointing match for us both. In trying to spare your feelings, I think I mislead you. My apologies. Thank you for bringing my misleading words to my attention. I do not think I will have further need of your affections of any kind.”

Hera choked a bit, covering her mouth, but her eyes were full of laughter. Amphitrite’s

eyebrows were up, her lips pulled into a devilish smirk.

“Are you really going to act like that just because this week’s side dish is throwing a tantrum?”

he demanded, throwing his napkin on the table.

“Oh Tristan, go tend to your ego elsewhere. I am trying to eat, and the thought of your dick is putting off my appetite.” Hera waved her hand in dismissal.

Tristan shot the Goddess a withering glare. “I do not need to hear anything from the woman who defines daddy issues.”

“Oh darling, we don’t have the time, nor you the credentials, to even begin to understand my issues.”

“Bitch,” Tristan whispered under his breath as he shot up from his seat.

Hera tapped her nose and winked at Devon as she took a sip of wine.

“Wait until you’re cast off, too,” Tristan snarled the words at Devon. As if using them to strike Devon would mean anything at this point. Tristan had been put in his place. Any moves he made now were defensive.

Devon moved to calmly stand, and though not as tall as Tristan, he could hold his own. Devon had always been a formidable figure against anyone of any stature.

“Mr. Wade,” he started. “I think maybe you should find somewhere else to lick your wounds. Staying here and yelling about your lack of sexual prowess will only embarrass you further.” Devon watched the man blather a bit before he shot a glare at Devon and went to find another seat across the room. Devon sat back down and looked at Hera. He just knew she had set up this little confrontation.

She nodded as if in approval of what had just transpired, as if Devon didn’t feel his heart

pounding loudly in his ears. The confrontation still boiling his already far too heated blood.

“Did you enjoy that, Hera?” Persephone asked, her eyes flashing with blue Godfire for just a
