We all know what Josephine means to Ivy, Sutton, Isabelle, and Everleigh. Even Stella. The five of them are tight and want to be there for their friend, and I don’t blame them. If it were one of my brothers, I’d do the same.

With it being Josephine, I’ll be there tomorrow to support her but also to teach her a lesson in leaving my bed when I tell her not to.

CHAPTER7

JOSEPHINE

I’m a total coward. Yep. That’s exactly what I am for the way I left Scythe’s room.

Then again, after he left, I ended up freaking out because who the hell has a sex swing hanging in the corner. And of course, thoughts started spilling into my head of when I’d seen him with those two women. Even more images rushed through my mind, these filling with the idea of me being in that contraption. There’s no way I could do that.

Nope. No way. I’m not someone who can do that.

Just the very reminder of it hanging in his room sent me spiraling. I already knew I couldn’t stay since I needed to get on the road, but that didn’t mean I didn’t want to stay. To continue what the two of us started.

My body still hums from just him using his mouth on my breasts.

Thoughts of what could have happened and what did cause turmoil, and I can’t help but wonder if I did stay if he’d have thrown me out after he got what he wanted. He told me to stay, that we were going to finish what we started, but what if he’d come back in the room and told me to get dressed and leave? What if it was all just the heat of the moment? Scythe claimed I was his, though I don’t believe him. It’s total BS.

How can he claim I am when he’s acted otherwise?

A sigh slips past my lips as I lean against the headrest and focus on the road.

For the next four days, I can block out everything that has to deal with Scythe. It’s going to be all about the competition. There’re several events that I’ll be participating in myself, but there are even more throughout the days. There are different dirt tracks for motocross, four-wheelers, and ATVs. Then there’s the mud bogging, which is always interesting to watch and join in on.

They have different classes for it, from lifted trucks, jeeps, and even tractors. I’ll be in the one for four-wheelers and can’t wait. I’ve made sure I’m totally ready for this weekend.

It does suck that no one will be with me, but if they were, I wouldn’t be able to focus. I’d be worried they’d think I was doing something wrong, or they’d try and stop me. I know my friends wouldn’t, however, their men might, and I can’t have that.

Blinking, I get comfortable and turn onto the interstate. It’s time to put everything to the side and simply enjoy what I love doing for myself.

Adjusting the gloves on my hand, I flex my fingers, making sure they’re on properly, and give my dirt bike one last look over. You can never be too cautious in ensuring everything is in order. The last thing you want is to have a line break while you’re out there in the middle of a race.

Satisfied that all looks good, I straighten and grab my helmet from its place in my trailer. I tuck it on one of the handlebars and start backing my bike down the ramp. I glance up, noticing a shadow, only to come up short at the sight of Jamie standing there, arms crossed over his chest.

“What are you doing here?” I blurt and glance around nervously, hoping no one else is with him.

“What do you think I’m doing here?” Jamie asks, cocking a brow.

“I didn’t tell you about this weekend.”

“I know you didn’t, but still I knew about it.” He shrugs and looks at my dirt bike. “Everything good with the bike?”

“Yes. I just finished checking over it. Are you here alone? You didn’t tell Mom and Dad about this, did you?”

“You don’t have to worry about them, JoJo. They’re here somewhere, and before you freak the fuck out, they’ve known about your racing and have seen them all, same as me. If they didn’t get to see it in person, they got to watch the videos I’d send to them—”

“Come again? You’ve videoed my races?”

“Don’t look so shocked,” he says sternly.

“Damnit, Jamie. You can’t be here.” I lick my bottom lip nervously, feeling my heart racing a mile a minute. “You need to leave. I . . . I have to focus.”

Jamie steps closer and cups either side of my face. “Look at me, Jos.” I do as he orders and stare at him with wide eyes. “You’ve got this. I know you do. Block everything else out. All you have to do is focus. Don’t think of anything else right now but winning your race.”

I nod and take a deep breath. “I need to go,” I murmur, put my helmet on, and head for the starting line.
