I had intended to sneak in through the back and take her without anyone being the wiser. But no, she had to go and leave.

Damnit. Damnit. Damnit.

Gripping my hair in my fist, I whirl around the room, breathing heavily. Why is this happening? It should be easy to have gotten her and brought her here to where she belongs.

It’s all that bastard’s fault. The one she was with at the mud park.

I will have to make sure she knows what she did with him was wrong.Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.

She’s pure, and he’s snuffing out that beautiful light of hers. I can’t let it happen. It’s why I’d given her the chocolates. I’d wanted her out of it enough for me to get her here without her fighting me. Once here, I’ll be able to make her see reason. She’ll be saved from the darkness and will be with me.

Now she’s at the damn hospital, and there’s no way to get to her. Not without being seen.

I lucked out that those miscreant kids didn’t actually see my face. I was smart to put the cap and glasses on. The jacket I wore hid my arms.

My eye twitches, and I yank at my hair, the pain calming me. With being unable to get to Josephine right now, I need someone else.

But who?

Who can I use as a substitute? There’s no one as beautiful and sweet as my sweet Josephine.

Dropping my hands from my hair, I grab my keys and storm out of the house. I switch vehicles, not wanting my car to be recognized by mistake.

Driving around, I find myself parked off to the side in the lot of that dreadful club’s bar. They took from me, so I intend to take from them. Pulling the hood over my head, I stare at the woman taking the trash out. The golden blonde hair on her head shines in the sun like a halo over her head. She’ll do.

I get out of the car, check my surroundings, and make my way to the woman. She’s not paying attention, bobbing her head to whatever she seems to be listening to. Coming up behind her, I grab her around the waist and cup a hand over her mouth, keeping her from screaming out. She tries to fight me, but she’s nothing I can’t handle. Quickly I get her to the car, pop the trunk and toss her in, slamming the lid before she can scream out.I’ll take her away from here, and then I’ll show her the error of her ways for hanging around a place that will snuff out the light that surrounds her.

Why do women do that?

Allow evil into their lives.

I’ll show her and then leave her to think of what she’s done. She can only blame herself for what she’s allowing to happen to herself.

Taking her to Dogwood Park, I found a secluded lot and park. Getting out, I grin and get out. She’s not Josephine, but for now, she’ll do. I’ll cleanse her and tell her what she’s done.

I pop the trunk and lift the lid.

She stares at me with wide eyes, and I reach in, grabbing her wrist, and yanking her out. I keep her from kicking out and toss her to the ground. Watching her scamper backward and panic is like an aphrodisiac.

I pull out my knife and fall on top of her. Time for her to learn her lesson while her face conforms to that of Josephine’s. I pretend this woman is mine and show her just what happens to dirty girls.

Once I’m done with her, she’ll never allow anyone to snuff out that light of hers.

CHAPTER15

SCYTHE

After hours of waiting, Stella finally comes out to give us an update. In the time it’s taken since giving her the box of chocolates, I’ve all but driven myself insane. For one, I hate hospitals with a passion.

I’d been just a kid, Styxx and me both, we’d go with our dad to work. It wasn’t this hospital, but one over in the next county. He was a damn good doctor who specialized in blood diseases and that sort of thing.

I try not to think about him and what he used to do. Mainly because when I do, I get pissed because if he wasn’t so damn good at what he did, then he wouldn’t have been killed, and neither would my mother. I wouldn’t have lost years with my sister. Styxx and I would have grown up with our family and not in our aunt and uncle’s home.

My aunt and uncle didn’t treat us badly. In fact, they raised us as their own alongside their son, Finnegan.

Shoving thoughts of the past away, I focus on Stella and stand along with Jamie. James had taken Samantha to get coffee and would be back soon.

“How is she?”
