I heard the door to Voila’s office open behind me, but didn’t turn around. I was too scared that Persephone might go for Cha-Cha. That wasn’t happening on my watch.

“If you’re so in love, why wasn’t Voila at your fashion show?” she demanded triumphantly.

“He had a dentist appointment,” I shouted then winced. It was a shitty excuse, but it was the first thing that came to mind. Possibly, because I needed to make a dentist appointment…

“Actually, he was there,” Cha-Cha said.

I had no clue if she was fibbing, but I went with it.

Smacking myself in the head, I kept digging the lie-hole deeper. “That’s right! Voila was in the front row.”

“It was the third row,” Voila said, coming up behind me and putting his arm around me.

His voice was alarmingly familiar. My gut tightened in panic and I was very close to passing out. It wasn’t until I turned my head and saw who it was that I screamed. He stood over six-feet tall with sandy-blond hair, bright blue eyes, kissable lips and a body to die for. He was dressed casually in khaki pants, a blue button-down shirt that made his eyes pop and a smart navy sport coat. The man was Heaven on a stick and then some.

It turned out that I knew Voila the Immortal Match Guy’s real name.

It was Kurt.

The man I’d ghosted.

My very own Prince Charming who had no clue he was my Prince Charming held me up so I didn’t drop to the ground like a sack of potatoes. Mortifying didn’t begin to cover it. However, there was still a furious man-eating mermaid to take care of. Kurt might hate me, but there was no way I was going to let Persephone ingest him. Cha-Cha would be devastated.

“Yes,” I agreed in a hoarse whisper. “It was the third row. My mistake. So, as you can clearly see, Persephone, Voila is not into you.”

“Everyone is into me,” she snarled.

Cha-Cha stepped forward and stood next to me. “You’re in a room of powerful magicals,” she pointed out calmly even though she was glowing dangerously. “Unless you’d like a face full of warts, a bald head and a nose the size of your foot, I’d suggest you leave and never come back. I’m the very proud mother of a wonderful gay man. That is a fact and is not up for debate.”

Cha-Cha was the best mother in the world. Kurt was a very lucky wizard.

Persephone had the wherewithal to look nervous. “This is not over,” she bellowed as she walked to the door to leave. “I will not back down until I win. I always win.”

“Not what I heard,” I said.

She screeched in anger and came at me.

Cha-Cha was over it. With a wave of her hand, she made good on her threat. Persephone now sported warts, a bald pate and an enormous nose.

Persephone’s shriek was epic and she tore out of the office in a rage. The three of us stood in silence for a full minute. I carefully disengaged from Kurt and headed for the door.

“The spell will wear off in a week,” Cha-Cha said with a giggle. “That woman is the worst.”

It was a true statement. However, it was time for me to exit the building. This was a train wreck.

“It was lovely meeting you, Cha-Cha,” I said, staring at the ground. My heart literally hurt. I would miss the witch something terrible even though we’d just met. “Kurt, I’d like to extend my apology for ghosting you. I shall take my leave now.”

“Not so fast, Johnson Jones,” Kurt said, pointing to his office. “We have an appointment. I’d think after ghosting me once, you wouldn’t do that again.”

“Are you serious?” I asked, panicking. My embarrassment was through the roof. However, Kurt was correct. I’d ghosted him once and I would not do it again. This was his business. “I mean, I’d be happy to pay for the session. That’s the right thing to do. But you can’t possibly want me to stay after what I did.”

Kurt stared at me for a long moment, then pointed to his office again. It was all kinds of hot, and I was petrified that I would jump his sexy bones in front of his mother. I’d already humiliated myself enough for the next century. I didn’t need to add anything else to the list.

“I’m quite serious,” he replied, walking into his office. “I’ll be waiting for you, Johnson Jones.”

I glanced over at Cha-Cha, who was smiling like the cat who’d swallowed the canary. “Did you know?” I choked out. “Did you know Kurt was the man I ghosted?”

She giggled and pushed me toward the open door. “I had my suspicions,” she admitted gleefully. “It’s serendipitous that you made an appointment! The world works in such beautifully magical ways.”
